traffic light

Quotes about traffic light, page 3

Day Sounds

Silence in the city appears to be hard to find
The sounds we hear are often raw and unkind
There is noisy traffic that is violent and demanding
And the cries of the engines are loudly expanding
Hot mufflers expose of evaporating dark fumes
Rising up as smog like the towering stones of tombs

Traffic lights are humming to a buzzing steady tune
While street vendors offer goods in the afternoon
The sewers are hissing when releasing warm steam
Surrounded by laughing tourists eating ice cream
The cooing of pigeons is heard wherever you go
People in line are conversing while waiting for a show

Water is pounding against the concrete bank of the river
The brakes of trucks are grinding as they revolt and quiver
Then the whistle from a train echoes in the far distance
And the sirens of ambulances deliver firm persistence
The noise and motions communicate with us in the city
Leaving imprints in our minds of a life that is rather gritty

Though we're songs if anybody sings?

We're almost tired of breathing.
Hey! Belief is free.
And luckily so far
They don't tax it?
Oh! The Paradise still exists somewhere
But you have to get permission to sit there
Among the others.
Please make us Logs
Or Stones, if not traffic lights
With the colour of Amber.
At least we could have wink in between
The revolutionary Red & pasture Green
For the reckless drivers
Who seek unlimited wilderness!

Cul de sac

At the parking
of the Ok-bazaar / Shoprite in Springs
a one-way street runs out
straight into a traffic light
that cuts a T
into two directions.

This morning the traffic light
is blocked
by a crowd of rioters
that comes from the right side,
from where I want to go.

The police block the road
to the left with a car
and some policemen walk along
with the uprising.

There’s a foreman, instigator
or head man

0021 Football's new rules

I guess you read the news
about the town – soon to be copied –
which abolished traffic lights...
what happened? Self-preservation,
care, and courtesy have won the day..

while the soccer news this weekend was
that everybody blames the referee..
who’s after all, just the traffic-lights to this game..
suppose we tried the same daring system on the soccer field..

any player who makes a bad tackle
or an inadvertent trip (deliberate ones
would disappear as a mark of shame)
to apologise politely and offer
a free kick to the other side..

the player who kicks the ball into touch
immediately hands the ball to the other side
or at the very least, runs away – both sides

Thanks to Sex

His love
Goes
Out of the
Window
When
Sex goes
Out of the
Bed -
As if the
Traffic light
Of love
Changes
From green
To red.

We wait
For it
To get
Amber
When sex

The day is dying in a local town

Rose petal pink, orange tingeing into white-grey
the evening twilight fades away,
the soldiers, from general down,
the lawyer, the city lark, accountant, the office clown
are disseappearing into the enclosing dark,
the homeless man, the vagrants sit smoking
in the municipal park,
with a few mucho men joking
in the packed bar, the evening star
glitters her hello, shines down
across the hugely deserted town.

Crème liqueur, dark red wine
are whirling in glasses of lovers,
mistresses, in the hands of men,
some lovely women
and a few local swine
who cavort and dine
and some are cold as cadavers,
intent on getting more

A tryst with fate! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

A ten year old with chilled water bottles in hand
Runs as cars halt, and traffic signal turns red.
On a hot sultry day, says to the lady, it’s a good brand.
Wipes his nose with his torn shirt sleeve, as it bled.

A kind man gently took him under the shade,
Uncapped and poured the chilled water on his head.
Drop by dropp fed him with spoon some lemonade.
But for the Good Samaritan, would he be dead?

In a short while, the boy came round, a lot flushed.
Looked at the elderly man, gratitude writ large on his face.
Son, rest a while, don’t go in Sun to sell water in a rush.
The boy lifted his hands and said, you came, its God’s grace.

Am the sole bread winner, as my father died in a cyclone.
Who can quarrel with what he ordains and wills…?
I don’t have the luxury or the time to sit and mourn,
Live in the past, or sit back and rest, when a wee bit ill.

Snow storm

Snow was drifting down,
falling on people in the street
like soft powder from the sky.

A chilly wind blew
from the Drakensberg mountains
and around me it was white
and fresh.

Every thing was clear
and white clinging to shapes
that man put there.

Traffic lights brightly blinked yellow,
red and green
like one eyed Cyclops’s topped in white

with cables feeding
thunder and lightning to them
and I felt like Zeus

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Traffic lights shinning in my eyes,
And here I am standing in the rain
Counting every dropp that fell in my palm.
The Cold breeze frozen my body
Like yesterday when you left me in vain
On were I can’t stand from all the pain.
That was yesterday I could still remember.
Yesterday, I was stood under the burning rain.
Were my heart was freezing under the sun
When all the blue and woe has passed my way
And those autumn leaves are my shelter
On the broken tree house of memory
That my heart is getting weak,
And it’s hard for me to breathe.
That was yesterday, I was dazzle in lights of lies.

And today,
The sun grimaces in the early morn
Were the world embrace me from the past
That beauty blooms here inside my heart

Children of Lost God

Extended palms, seeking alms
sunken eyes, skeltoned arms
jaundiced skin, frail frames
children of lost God.

Ragged and shabby, looking ravenous
searching morsels of food, trembling and nervous
fighting the odds, weak but courageous
children of lost God.

Here, there and everywhere
at crossroads and traffic signals
selling wares of rich and famous
or washing utencils, running errands
at the stalls, dabhas, small eateries
under the hot sun or the sand
picture this, view not so grand
children of lost God.

Urchins of all ages initiated

[Gladys Knight]

She said she want some Marvin Gaye, Some Luther Vandross, a little Anita, will definately set this party off right

God Must Be Wrong

Don’t beat the traffic light
Stop! When it’s red
Zoooom…goes the Mercedes
And BMW 5 Series
And Toyota Altis
And Honda
And Proton Saga
Fast car
Or not fast car
Why should you beat the traffic light?

Show off or you're too rich
You can afford to pay the summons
Are you running from something?
Touts or loan sharks
So, the police want you
And that’s made you beat the red light
To escape
“Excuse me, I want to win this race”
So you’re an illegal racer

Still They Ride

Jesse rides through the night
Under the main street light
Ridin slow
This ol town, aint the same
Now nobody knows his name
Times have changed, still he rides.
Traffic lights, keepin time
Leading the wild and restless
Through the night
Still they ride, on wheels of fire
They rule the night
Still they ride, the strong will survive
Chasing thunder
Spinning round, in a spell
Its hard to leave this carrousel
round and round
And round and round
(chorus)

Separation

the streets
rushing winding blinding
blind corner open centred
high on the hills beyond them
the man is sitting alone
down the blocks against them
the woman is feeding the baby
the cradle is singing the song
the laughter is singing among
the streets the windings binding
the hands into traffic lights
zebra crossing to the other sides
do you hear them
rush footsteps feet soles
concrete licking
they never know
who's come who's gone who's come along
hours of a baby a man and a woman
ticking against the hills so tearful
or sobbing within a guilty home

How The World Once Stopped...

Time with all its florid offerings
indelible petals of prismatic paint
frozen blankets
horizon snowy canvass
vines of resurrection still
clinging to stamen of withered
asphyxia

night spills its
chocolate
affection
mouths flow sweet
with the mellifluous
golden syrup fondue
of a melting pot sun

particles of reoccuring
dream resume their
patterns of apolitical
democratic anarchy

The Cloudy Crossroads Xxx: : :

Again this misunderstanding
Again the cloudy crossroads,
What it, has deteriorated
A traffic light?
What happens,
Green does not flicker any more? !
My exciting “golf” is peaceful
In a neutral regime…
(Silently sings something about itself)
I sit lonely and I think:
Why I miss about fragrant jasmins...

Ennis

Ennis will forever be enshrined in my mind,
A small mark on the map from another place and time.
Memories dimmed by many years as though cut with a knife,
First seventeen years of love and laughter in my life.

In a town bowed down by poverty struggling to survive,
Back lanes of half-door houses waiting someone to arrive.
Narrow winding streets full of friends and farmers’ horses,
Pompous priests dressed in black who always walked on water,

And girls in long green dresses that came down below their knees,
Moving past on bicycles; boys waiting for a breeze,
And cows moving slowly herded down towards the water,
Where their blood will fill the Fergus from the houses of slaughter.

And the Christian Brothers School where Brother Brien taught,
No such thing as freedom especially freedom of thought.
We learned everything in Gaelic in the very ancient script,
Letters from the Book of Kells or some ancient warrior’s crypt.

Where are the guys I knew so well; stole by emigration?
Or shied from skirts that only hurt and joined some congregation.

Congratulations On The All Clear (Fun Poem 67)

Everywhere you go
someone has hung a banner
saying Happy Birthday
or Happy Anniversary to someone.
However, the most unusual one
I have ever come across
was tied to a fence
opposite some traffic lights,
so when you stopped
it stood out like a beacon light
and written on it
you might well ask.
It read,
congratulation on getting
the all clear at the VD clinic,
and the names of those concerned
was written below.
Now when the letters
are two foot tall
you cannot miss them at all.
