Red is one of the strongest colors, it's blood, it has a power with the eye. That's why traffic lights are red I guess, and stop signs as well... In fact I use red in all of my paintings.

restaurants fall into dreams
with candlelight couples
Lost Alexandria still burns

I Close My Eyes

I close my eyes like a good little boy at night in bed,
as I was told to do by my mother when she lived,
and before bed I brush my teeth and slip on my pajamas,
as I was told, and look forward to tomorrow.

I do all things required of me to make me a citizen of sterling worth.
I keep a job and come home each evening for dinner. I arrive at the
same time on the same train to give my family a sense of order.

I obey traffic signals. I am cordial to strangers, I answer my
mail promptly. I keep a balanced checking account. Why can’t I
live forever?

Lights in the night

The sun fades in its red glare
over the mountain top
and traffic lights, street lights
and electrical signs
get an own life
that appears
like flowers folding open to the night.

The city lies dotted out
with thousands of lights
like a big jewel,
that a master artist

in the night-rain
driven from the river

and on the street without a place to go,
sits an old man and his old wife
and their small white dog.

I see a blonde girl watching cars,
to buy a piece of bread
and her face tells that she has problems
and I wonder how she washes

Our hero leaves the pub his head still
Swimming with alcohol, his head
Buzzing with facts, figures and
Computers. night is descending as he
Wearily makes his way home through

Dream Collector

The Dream Collector.

The traffic light was on red when I dreamt of an island in
the Saragossa Sea. No one has yet discovered it; those who
do will never recover. A happy place, how should I know?
Restless are the ghosts of sailors walking on the strand
between sea and land looking for their ship that tugs at
the anchor in some hidden bay.

Arthritic fingers flex, hoisting sails. Just once more my dear,
let me see you under full sails, swiftness on the seas.

A Railroad Town

The diesel locomotive wailed
Like a sick bull as it approached
The intersection; five bellows.
The dreaded traffic light turned red
And all of us just sat waiting
For this snail-like, slow-moving
Freight train to pass, while the traffic
was backing up to infinity.
Life becomes a standstill in time:
If your appendix burst, pray to god;
