Wishes And Dreams Within
Four dolls in my work station, the
prettiest small amounts of money
could buy - a special doll must be
cheap, otherwise I cannot
play with her at all
The smallest doll represents the
grown-up shell in which the child-
hood version of adults dwell, the
two bigger, younger dolls re-
present the wonderment
Of early youth - the smallest one
reminds of undeveloped potential,
everyone has probable personalities
which had been repressed to allow
one main ego to develop well
A shock might activate other ego-
possibilities - a split into several

Rag Doll
Rag doll.
What tales you could tell.
A child's embrace
By a wishing well.
A painted face
And a Wizard's spell.
Ay birthdays
Young.
She always clung
To you.
Rag doll.
Of red and blue.
Rag doll.
You lay abandoned
On the floor.
Now lonely
Behind a cupboard door.
You weep.
Where is that spark

Company Manners
When Bess gave her Dollies a Tea, said she,--
'It's unpolite, when they's Company,
To say you've drinked _two_ cups, you see,--
But say you've drinked _a couple_ of tea.'

Through their play Barbara imagined their lives as adults. They used the dolls to reflect the adult world around them. They would sit and carry on conversations, making the dolls real people.

Good-Children Street
There's a dear little home in Good-Children street -
My heart turneth fondly to-day
Where tinkle of tongues and patter of feet
Make sweetest of music at play;
Where the sunshine of love illumines each face
And warms every heart in that old-fashioned place.
For dear little children go romping about
With dollies and tin tops and drums,
And, my! how they frolic and scamper and shout
Till bedtime too speedily comes!
Oh, days they are golden and days they are fleet
With little folk living in Good-Children street.
See, here comes an army with guns painted red,
And swords, caps, and plumes of all sorts;
The captain rides gaily and proudly ahead
On a stick-horse that prances and snorts!
Oh, legions of soldiers you're certain to meet -
Nice make-believe soldiers - in Good-Children street.

Bahamas 2008
On a cruise ship I did sail,
going to the Bahamas
remembering it well.
Listening to bands that played,
dance hits of their day,
That's when the word
"happy" meant "gay".
Taking photos on the deck,
eating lobster, shrimp and steak.
Raining when ship does land,

The Dolls
A DOLL in the doll-maker's house
Looks at the cradle and bawls:
'That is an insult to us.'
But the oldest of all the dolls,
Who had seen, being kept for show,
Generations of his sort,
Out-screams the whole shelf: 'Although
There's not a man can report
Evil of this place,
The man and the woman bring
Hither, to our disgrace,
A noisy and filthy thing.'
Hearing him groan and stretch
The doll-maker's wife is aware
Her husband has heard the wretch,
And crouched by the arm of his chair,
She murmurs into his ear,
Head upon shoulder leant:
'My dear, my dear, O dear.
It was an accident.'

At Helen's for Tea.
After school
Helen's mother took you home to tea
and she was wheeling
the big pram along the pavement
with you on one side
and Helen on the other
and she said
hold onto the pram
while we cross the roads
I don't want anything
to happen to you
and as you crossed
the busy roads
you kept glancing over
at Helen with her plaited hair

Bloody Paper Dolls
They bleed an ink of green blood
Cut them out
Faces of drawn misfortune
Bodies of frail dresses
Minds of empty blue lines
Given names of whores from distorted streets
Megan molly Shannon mind so weak
Created world of plagiarized lives
These bloody paper dolls have no eyes
They see not the tears upon her face
They bleed words onto the page
Green ink dripping
Soft words describing a life
Take there heads the lose all purpose
Fixed scissors this time ill make a man
Green ink bleeds from the cut up words
And the body it forms
These dolls aren’t real they are a shaken reality
Let her be she has dreams
And I cut the words from this page

Tearing Off Your Own Head
Who dries your eyes when you cry real tears?
Who knows or cares what an imitation is?
(only you do)
You can paint his nails
Make him wear high heels
Why waste time altering the hemline
(only you do)
Tear off your own head
Tear off your own head
Its a doll revolution
You can bat your lashes
You can cut your strings
Pull out his hair with your moveable fingers
(it looks so real)
But one wont do it so collect the set
Dress him up in pink ribbons
Put him in a kitchenette
(how does this feel? )
Tear off your own head
Tear off your own head

What was she doing, there?
What was she doing, there?
Like some old bag lady.
Another displaced foreigner...
Sitting in Piccadilly, gardens
Manchester, today...
“With a toy pram
and 2 clothed dollies”
“One dressed in green,
a much larger in reddish brown”.
Simply put on the fountains cobbles...
Dressed in these old linens
Her dollies lying face down.
How odd? No one is looking...?
Not one sees the child’s pram.
Only big enough for a small, cat.
How odd these two babies,
look—displaced on the ground.
One displaced to her left.
Another to her right…
It’s the 9th of October—2011

Planet Of The Doll Pact
I know you are the evil one,
one dark eyed puppet that ruins all the fun,
yes, you are Razel puppet with one thumb.
Now we will let you trespass here,
if you decide to be sincere,
In fact you will have to melt,
all the ice spells you ever dealt.
Now all is forgiven,
We all dollies are one,
One Doll Planet under the Suzaria Sun,
having so much fun, fun, fun!
with Razel puppet doing pranks on all the ton!

Porcelain Dolls Can't Breathe.
Eye lids slowly rise
Two peaked brows
Signifying an arch of innocense.
Masked in the depths of
Porcelain and perfection
Cool skin desgined with
The finest porcelain selection
She masters a paint-by-numbers kit.
Bits.-
Of her delicate psyche
Strewn along the floor
Placed on a metal shelf
And sold
As if this doll were a whore
With he now the merchant
He drags his purchase through the door
But, this doll she hasn't yet fallen.
Stalling.-

Unexpected Father.
Your mother
had brought Helen
home for tea after school
and she had held on
to the handle
of the pram
your mother pushed
and you walked
along side
thinking of whether
to show her
your toy soldiers
and cowboys and Indians
and the guns

The Valley Road
While no one was looking on the old plantation
He took her all the way down the long valley road
They sent her away not too much later
Left him walking down the old valley road.
Sometimes I lead, sometimes I follow
This time Ill go where she wants me to go
She said maybe today, maybe tomorrow
Go deep in the woods down the long valley road
Walk on walk on little doll walk
Walkon little doll
Out in the hall they were talkin in a whisper
Everybody noticed she was gone a while
Somebody said she was gone to her sisters
Everyone knew what they were talkin about.
While no one was looking on the old plantation
He showed her what they do down the long valley road
Came back around like nothin really happened
Left him standing on the old valley road
Walk on walk on little doll walk on
Walk on little doll

Mean Old Man
If I look like a mean old man thats what I am
If I look like a mean old man thats what I am
If I look like a mean old man
Wholl do you any way he can
To break your heart and kiss your hand
Thats what I am
And if I look like a good old friend thats what I am
If I look like a good old friend thats what I am
If I look like a good old friend
Whos good at bending with the wind
To be your friend right to the end
Thats what I am
Chorus:
And if I look like a voodoo doll thats what I am
If I look like a voodoo doll thats what I am
If I look like a voodoo doll
Who takes his licking standing tall
Whod rather bite you back than crawl
Thats what I am
If I look like your uncle bob thats what I am
