Love and hate: The Emotional surges.
Right and wrong: The Rational decides.

In the game of chess, you are rational.
In the game of love, you are emotional.
In the game of sex, you are instinctual.

The Rational mind is your judge.
The Emotional mind is your advocate.
The Instinctual mind is your subject.

When judge fails, when advocate fails,
The subject spurts to save the self
Or feeds the self without fail.

Deadly Whispers

Insidious vapours hang
Pressure cookers in the air
Weaved by an arachnids tongue
Telling tales with satin truths
It's in the cafe killer's drink
Sentences with "I heard..."
Depicting facts for their concoctions
Until their elementary denouncements

Sometimes it is the wind
Hitting repute like a knife
From a cold war armistice
Leaving short change on a life
Small talk doesn't leave scars
Just craters for caricatures
For what is said in subdued tones
Can lead to passive violence

Yes it is a syndrome of sociopaths
The mark of deadly whispers

Daisy chains, the children
In the morning sun, lolling,
Rolling on the lawn – eyes keen
For the Mr Whippy van
Scottie running for her ball
Holding hands they feign to fall
Wasps are buzzing with the bees
Home Service of the BBC
Rules the waves but not the clouds

that chase the kids inside for games
of Blind Man’s Bluff and pick-up-sticks

Satellites of first design

in plasma veil as ancient ones
in cold war years you were my fears

The Cold War

The Cold War. (Norway 1964)

A group of ten men in cheap suits and hats, crew on a Soviet ship
anchored in the bay. Walked around the streets looking at window
displays. Suddenly one of the men broke away from the group,
he ran down a side road, but was swiftly caught by the local police,
who had followed the group a discreet distance; only few people
noticed the incident. The fugitive sat on the pavement crying, was
forced to join the group. The man, now surrounded by the others,
had no escape. They walked around a little longer like nothing odd
had happened, then they headed back to the docks where a boat
picked them up and drove them back to their vessel in the bay.

Cold War Fifties Feb 17th,2010

i spent the Cold War fifties in Halifax, walking up and down,
On Gottington Street and Barrington Street looking all around,
In the Seagull Club and HMCS Stadacona and various ships,
Drinking beer in taverns where the waiters always wanted tips.

So I knew Halifax in the fifties like the palm of my hand,
Still sometimes locked in memories marching with Stadacona band,
Sometimes in Norfolk or Key West or Havana once or twice,
And those beautiful young Cuban girls taught us lots of vice.

Therefore we could compare Halifax with many other places,
Even many British and international naval bases,
The people of Halifax where not told about what we thought,
Nor were they bothered or in the least bit overwrought.
