What is Man's Solution?

Symbols sprawled across the sheet outlive grief,
meditate upon Time, Time the thief,
that eternal Robin Hood, hoodwinking
some, at others, delusively winking
for a while untll due retribution
is meted out. What is man’s solution?
On a global scale, redistribution
shuffles cards so every generation
may try new hand at self-regeneration.

The cards of Fate, like those of day and night,
the glad, the gay, the sombre and the bright,
dealt by a jester as and when it suits.
Just or unjust call trumps, and, then, life loots.
The knave soon knows the spade, inters the heart,
yet still would seek a kingdom set apart,
and still would eat the icing on the cake
and dream that fears are past, - yet fears to wake.

There’s a hole in the sky,
Amidst the rain-bearing clouds,
And only when the gap is closed,
Will the rain finally come,
To quench the intense thirst,

So dangerous to human lives,

Cockroaches on Wheels

The sun is hot today and the humidity is high
Tempers are flaring as the morning traffic gets heavy
Road hogs in tinted SUVs and teamster truckers in Peterbilts
Lap up any remaining sloppy seconds of Ethanol laced fuel
With their low productivity and latest economic reports
Of corn and all grain prices having reached new all time highs
Not to mention the effects of which are much higher tortilla prices
Leaving economist and indexes perplexed
How’s an illegal from Mexico suppose to feed his family?
Now there goes the radio’s signal from the satellites orbiting overhead
Breaking up with broadcast interference from the extensive solar flares
As the news reporter claims sources say that we all may be saved
Because Wal-Mart promises to put the Christ back in Christmas
It’s an October morning and I must admit
October was never one of my favorite months
Even when it was cooler and long before Al Gore
Released all of his hot air into the ozone layers
___There goes the neighborhood as another driver flips me off

Beach after storm

The largest stones are piled against the sea-wall
since that huge storm, a hundred years ago.

For the sea will never leave the beach alone –
might you think it would fling
the smallest stones the furthest?

No – to re-assert its power,
it challenges the heftiest resistance,
with inexhaustible, ruthless determination
rolling, thrusting, flinging in impatient storm
the largest, furthest; then grading with such patient delicacy
over the years, the smooth but fine-scratched stones
of so many colours – how can it have found,
how long for it to find, so many lucent colours of wet stone?

These sometime finds – searching with a child’s fine eye –
of purest pebbled marble - how many thousand miles
has the sea rolled these from southern shores?
