Theodora Onken about winter

My December

Relentless Winter lays itself white
Far below the mountains spires
Muted tones of off white and grey
Linger near a warming fire;
Hearthside altars of a family nest
'Neath a cathedral ceiling cabin in the wood
Struggles to burn and linger it's warmth
In the silver white frosty wooded neighborhood;

Post Script

This starless night breaks open -once again-
Through a cumbersome chilled breeze...
My windowsill 'tis laced with ice chips
And glazed-frozen branches are left upon the trees;
Our embers once aglow...so warm...
In yesterdays fire-are now- long gone-
'Twas like the Summer in mid Winter-wasn't it?
Alas, 'twas deaf and blind to all of your wrong;

Yesterday And Today

Trapped in the alley ways of yesterday--
Sheets of fog cover up my flaws...
Protected by the Winter of Cold Indifference--
Where doubt and fear once bore their ugly claws;

In a labyrinth of charcoal grey conundrums...
I breathe in my past once and again---
Wondering where my truth has run off to...
Fleeing all the way- back to then;

'Neath a canopy of: 'Might Have Beens'...
Not pursuing them to the end---
Anxiety obliterates all of my coverings...
Totally disabled my ability to mend;

Oh So Ready

The Winter Season has begun its erasing...
With each of us-a bit stripped raw-
Sliced by a cutting North wind-
In the grasp of January's claw;
We are unanimously oh so ready
For the Springtide air to draw
That we make wishes upon a February star
For an early Winterime thaw;
Looking to the Ground Hog on his day-
His shadow 'tis either met or no
But the stinging bluster of the North wind reminds-
That the forecast-still calls for snow;

~Rustic Winter~

Mountains high
Chilled to the bone
Evergreens sigh
Shivering tones
The cold-is a dance
Filled with rustic ambience
With survivors brave stance
Eclectic deep woods and
Deep woods romance
It's just little ole me
And my wise old muse
Out in the cabin
Of most majestic of views'
Snow capped mountains
Delight to the eye
Building a Promethus fire
From high in the sky
Warming up winter cabin
Of cold
Beckoning in all brand new

Poems Of The Heart (Their Origin)

Did you perhaps attend my Springtime class?
Participating flushed and imbued from past silences?
Or are you in the mountains now?
Masked in the rocky crags of camouflage?
Will i find you brisk as the Winter wind?
Or will you be still as the first leaf of Fall upon the sod?
And what of your eyes-are they still filled with Summer intent?
With perhaps the beginnings of your first poem?
Are you at last out from the shadows that once spoiled you?
Or are your ears now filled with the music of rhyme?
And your breaths-are they the reason for the seasons?
What of your purpose-is it now defined by rhyme so sublime?
Has it at last arrived in your heart?
Where all poems have been born throughout time.

Now Is Nearly Gone

So brief the sunshines glow
The lavenders bloom
Or the dusks purple calm
Too quick is the gloom
For far too soon
The Winter snow it
Melts
Upon the earth's
Sodden ground
As the morning dew
Upon the lawn
Lingering near
Not a sound
So go ahead
And write that song
Sing that sweet melody
Go ahead and run
barefoot in the sand
With your naked feet
In natures reverie

Snow Birds

A cistern of bitter dreams came calling
Contained in a liquid misery from the Niagra snow
Not melted naturally by the suns teeming rays
Blanketing me from the swift wind that blows;
Duplicitous Winter-Action-their theme
Greed-their morsel-and their seed
Meeting over hot coffee Klatches barefoot
Where sociopaths of pure evil breed;
Today-broken and estranged from our offspring!
Whom do we thank-in the end?
Answer is it-the snowblind-snowbird co-conspirators?
Or the Sparrows at Wedgemere Bend?

I Am

I am a listener
Of a half thought about Winter mind
A writer of a half seen legacy
And a sphere of half spoken rhyme;
I am an arrow sharpened
Of Ero's love sick fool
A trembling hand-in loves quick sand
A condemned lover of the Golden Rule;
I am the pity of a thousand teardrops
Of yesterdays heartbreak and sorrow
I am the startled Bird Of Paradise
Boding omens: of no tomorrows;
I am the field of blues and purples
Of lavender and lilac-to violet hue
Growing behind fences of sheer amazement
I am the whispering of love to you;

Warmth

The days warm wraps itself...
Secure in this heat---
Cozy and at ease-in the sun...
But my yawn betrays me--
As sleep is beckoning me...
As my eyelids droop--
Halfway over my green...
Wanting to shut completely;
My head bobs-quickly abrupt--
And for a second i sleep;
Back awake immediately-on alert...
Wide-eyed but not bushy tailed! ! !
Not wanting to miss--
The days tender kiss...
From the Sun--
Before day is done;
The warm engulfs me once again--
Like a comforter...
Or patchwork quilt...
Oft' used in the Winter;

Full Circle

Beginning 'neath the late Summer moonlight-
Embraced in the leaves of Fall...
Awed by Winter time and icy places...
But reponding to the Springs south wind call;

Lips tempting more to come...
Over the past months of weathered time...
Verging on passions filled Summer fire once again-
Ending in loves most perfect rhyme;

Dedicated to: The Passage of Seasons and Times In Our Lives;
To remembrance and Debbie Harry -Blondie and her songs-Call Me, One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass and to her amazing performance on The T.V. Land Awards this evening.

Warming

Mon amour-'tis such an exqisite night-
Peeking through the fluff of the clouds...
Enveloping stars reach out from afar...
While the love crickets serenade out loud;

Serenades for the two of us, beloved-
'Neath a canopy fit for a King and Queen-
Echoed sighs from the love-sick skies...
And all of those lovers in between;

Love letters reach for our hands...
While romantic music hums in the air-
A rendezvous-complete for two...
Our every dendrite and neuron aware;

Your gentle touch electifies my psyche-
And stirs up a fire in embers of old...
Heating the night with its firery bright-
Allowing our love to melt the Winter cold;

Overwhelmed II

I bid adieu to my wandering mind-
For i must focus on today...
Caught in between the rise and fall of wellness
And its various shades of grey;
No mediocre moments to hold me
The mundane has taken its leave
I am lost, and emersed at full attention
While, in my heart, i continue to grieve;
Its an unhappy ending that breaks me
Hopeless and helpless-i find no ease
No answers forthcoming in this situation
I come undone in the freeze;
For the Winter of life has come calling
Blanketing me with heavy despair
As if buried alive in an avalance of worry
Nothing to hope for-not even the wing of a prayer;

Savoir Faire~

He writes of love in the past tense
Of constant winter's full of snow
Of the one who got away...
And the emptiness that he has come to know;
He writes in brilliance when no one is looking
All glitter in a shining reverie
Eliciting such brilliance that 'tis blinding
Tell you, he's got the best of me;
He writes of no one caring...
With a Pavillion full of ardent friends
Adoring, worshiping and longing...
For just one autographed poem from his pen;
Never mind that he is a member of Mensa
Multi-lingual and profound in his choice of words
A gifted teacher and abstract thinker sublime
Believing that no one cares is really quite absurd! ;

Amber Mist

An imigrant of Dawn, i rise-
I search the roses and trees for thee-
Comes Spring and Summer joy of Love-
Where warmer shadows hide the last freeze...

A sanctuary of green paints itself free-
Comes the dusks past twilight all-
The brick wall with Autumns climbing ivy-
With two mysteries remaining-
The Amber Mist and Black Rose Of Fall...

Answers are not forthcoming-
Insidious and hidden in times past-
The seasons of blustering winds comes calling-
All leaves from the trees are cast...

Succumbing in days to the chill-
The Amber Mist and Black Rose decay-
Irrevelant now in this day and time-
For Winter White has gotten his way...

It Could Be

It could be found in natures green tendrils
In the emerald of verdancy...
'Twas lush touched in the SpringTide
This, oh so, moon influenced, lunacy;
Oh, falling in love and it's insanity
We all loose it some at the start...
Cloned in the ecstacy of loves first blush
Touched in one's mind and one's heart;
I oft' compare the falling
To the first beginning's of Spring...
It's newness and sweet steps of desires fires
In anticipation, always, of what the morrow twill bring;
So, here's to the lush blush of new lovers...
Count your blessings and embrace the climb
For, too soon, we are old and failing
With the Fall and Winter, running us out of time;

Changes...?

Oh, these changes just keep on a coming...
Alterations of varying kinds-
Throwing us foul balls of discord
Often times just blowing our minds;
It has been a Summer of heated arguments...
Nestled 'neath an overpass of doom
Resounding 4th of July Fireworks, crackling
And everywhere else, a Winter of Doom;
Looking for the fingerprints of SpringTide
Morning comes crawling home to me...
Imperfect Falls russet is looming-bonfires burnished...
While temperatures of bad omens, rise by degrees;
Seasons of disagreements continue to challenge us-
Through the mountains of discontent, in the Vale
Waves of bitter words-now growing Tidal..
In a once deep blue sea, now gone pale;

Apathy

Oh ye of little faith
Denying the grqce of forgiveness
Erasing your compassion
And turning in the opposite
Direction of your compass

Who goes there in your Head?
In needier times you shined
And your opened arms were there
Shelter was given
And love was aware

Singled out now from the masses
More a bleached out cartoon character
With no sense of humor
Serious to a fault
As if falling into deep ravines of clamor
Only to find more disheveled scions

Where is your humanity?

Final Rest

Somewhere in the dessert
She sits alone
Totally unraveled
To strings of past desire
In antiscipation of an oasis
Peeking into the sand
She sees his face
Absolute reflection of her need
A bouquet of hues of longing
Turns softly into the here and now
Her fragile woven existance
Weaves love into tender feelings
But 'tis it just a tale she has
Penned in vain?
Her desire 'tis uncovered
Chillingly into the reality of an
Ice covered dawn
She is able to remember
A lovelier time
Brief yet gentle

BirdSong Part Two

A gentle trill comes through the breeze
A warbler sings its song
'Tis the Deity's Golden Rhapsody
How could such beauty e'er be wrong?
Gentle feathers plume their pride
In the mornings most dewy glow
A choir of feathered Angels upon the wing
Drown out morose cries of days woe
Our birds are true Aristocrats
Their own melody-a reigning crown
Dressing up a kingdom of bucholic vales
Bringing forth smiles instead of frowns
'Tis a Birdsong World- i am told
'Tis a Birdsong Season- O' Spring
So sorry to eventually see them all go
With the Winter the cold wind brings
Birdsong -Warblers travel deeper south
Seeking they -the warmth O' the Sun
Bringing their Psalms of Godly songs
To deep south climbs- where Spring has just begun
