The Ever Popular Street
Rictameter Poem.
Fleet Street
that ancient door
where the printing machines
produced editions by the score
Hearts were aglow with paperboys calling
they made family life complete
and thanks went to London
to a place called
Fleet Street.

Paper Boy
Roy orbison
I walk down to the blue side of town
Where there's no happiness, no joy
Down at the end of a long dark street
I saw a little paper boy
Paper boy paper boy
I've got bad news for you
Paper boy paper boy
Me and my baby are through
She was my love my one and only
I feel so bad i'm oh so lonely
I'm looking for my love
I've got my own headlines for today
They've been the same since she went away
"one dark haired angel disappears
She's been missing for a million years"
Paper boy paper boy
So long goodbye
Paper boy paper boy
Thanks for listening while i cry

Memories
She dressed and made herself up,
She had drunk her tea from a favorite cup.
It was a gentle Victorian day a day of ease.
A gentle breeze blew through winter trees.
She waited on the platform for the red rattler train,
Wondering if she might require an umbrella if it rains.
Her thoughts strayed to her old school days,
When they got up to some mischief ways.
She arrived and joined city the rush hour crowd,
Paperboy's calls, cars rushing, all covered in a misty shroud.
Quick coffee compliments of work; clock on and begin.
Her day would not be ordinary it fact you might say amazing.
He lived just out side the city central with his parents,
By tram, he enters Melbourne town with its wonderful scents.
He too hears paperboys, walks among the rushing cars,
Its coffee aroma; misty atmospheres and bars.

0021 The Advent of Commerce
December 11; and through the letterbox
falls like a heavy snowflake, the first Christmas card..
who’s so eager to draw
my mind and heart to Advent-tide?
no stamp – ah yes, of course,
it’s from Alex the paper boy,
counting his goodwill before it’s cashed,
throwing me into a moral tizzy.
My parents, who knew the circumspection
with which the poor must treat the poor,
taught me that after God and the family
had been acknowledged on Christmas Day,
‘Boxing Day’ was the time for showing gratitude
to those who’d served your family faithfully
daily or weekly – the milkman with his
unsociable hours; the paperboy
(for those who could afford a daily paper) :

And Then
Outside I hear the sounds of children,
the sounds do not get louder or softer,
just a small stone in the hand of a morning,
legs splayed and weak obscurely in cotton,
falling asleep again I scramble up a nightslope,
dirt and gravel shoot from underneath my bare feet
and then
I dream of my first day at school, the smell of
stale milk and wet raincoats, the crying of lost children.
This is an unexpected return, as if I will never wake again
to the sound of the paperboy opening the creaky gate.

On the verge

Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed
Something's in the air
I answer the phone and there's nobody there
And your changin' the way that you're wearin your hair
And I wonder
Yes I wonder
Something's on my mind
The letters you get, cigarettes that I find
And you know I have to be deaf ,dumb and blind
Not to wonder
Not to wonder
Who's been sleeping in my bed
Gettin' what I get
When I don't get it
Who's been sleeping in my bed
Yeah, that's what I said
I just don't get it
Who's been sleepin'
Who's been sleepin' in my bed
Little things I miss
The ring on your finger, the fire in your kiss

Cupids Dead
-you read the papers today? -
I read the news today oh boy,
About a tragic comedy
Newspaper hinted suicide,
The letterhead read dear johnny
A tainted truth was all it said,
Sleep tight now that
Youve made your bed
An arrow that once pierced your heart
Points to the apple on your head
Three sides to every story
Yours, mine
And, monday mornings
Cupids dead, headlines read,
Cupids dead
Cupids dead, headlines read,
Cupids dead
Oh, romeo, oh, romeo
Where did our love go, romeo?
If you read between the headlines,

Domestic Shades 5
And
Theft has many styles
It leaps in the dark of dawn
Leaping over the fence for flowers
Tweaking with a handy hook-stick
Sometimes standing on a bicycle-seat too
Unhesitating house to house on a daily routine
And
On a query caught at times
Surrendered is God for flowers
I release God from my heart to grant verdict
For discovery of truth in yester-times
Even bhakta Ramdas was jailed
Why not today?
God is away while investigating
Goddess, busy declaring a sample deluge..
Quakes, volcanoes, cyclone tsunami, floods;
And masacre of wars, decoity, booty, loot,
Scandal, corruption, rape e.t.c, e.t.c

The Daily Blah...
'The Daily Blah...'
With sound not heard
Yet so absurd
As to enlighten
Or just frighten
Fashioned in the word obtrusive
Rarely caught and so elusive
Eloquent it's very manner
Never finest use of grammar
Soundbite each and every nation
Uttered without hesitation
Selfish in it's very form
Like a baby newly born
Sucking life
Causing strife
Telling lies
Causing sighs
Lawsuit filed
And so reviled
All in Daily Blah's agenda.

Brain Damage
The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door

A Happy Childhood
My mother stands at the screen door, laughing.
“Out out damn Spot,” she commands our silly dog.
I wonder what this means. I rise into adult air
like a hollyhock, I’m so proud to be loved
like this. The air is tight to my nervous body.
I use new clothes and shoes the way the corn-studded
soil around here uses nitrogen, giddily.
Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Often I sing
to myself all day like a fieldful of August
insects, just things I whisper, really,
a trance in sneakers. I’m learning
to read from my mother and soon I’ll go to school,
I hate it when anyone dies or leaves and the air
goes slack around my body and I have to hug myself,
a cloud, an imaginary friend, the stream in the road-

All Things Considered
All things considered I'm doin' just fine even though
You left a hole the size of Texas deep inside of my heart
The way I feel I should be losing my mind
But all things considered
I'm doin just fine
Woke up this morning to the sound of you slammin' the door
I got served a piece of paper for breakfast that said
You don't live here no more
And the dog won't let me pet him, he just lays around
And growls at my feet
And the paper boy forgot me again
I should have stayed in bed asleep
All things considered I'm doin' just fine even though
You left a hole the size of Texas deep inside of my heart
The way I feel I should be losing my mind
But all things considered
I'm doin' just fine
Well my car broke down again right before it ran out of gas
Yeah my boss is still ringing in my head
One more time and your out on your... yeah

Website, spider style
Do spiders think? or simply learn
without a thought (well, lucky them)
by observation, as great scientists?
Does Nature do it all without a 'thought',
the spider just some robot, programmed thus?
The spider which the other day
built daring, acrobatic, gossamer bridge
across the path a guy-lined full six feet
so that to reach the gate, I had to genuflect
as if in some most holy church's aisle,
That bridge of San Luis Rey, already doomed
to break - the postman, paper boy, the milk -
I watched while seated in the sun for hours;
and as I watched, grew humbler by the minute;
myself the smaller in respect, the spider greater;
my lunch was cooking; the spider awaited (hers?) :

City Life
Orbison/dees
Coffer cafes dizzy with city lights, concrete sidewalks busy with friendly fights
But thats alright baby, its alright come go with me and you will see city life, city life
Loud paper boys yelling yesterdays news, a pedlar man selling what you cant use
Thats alright baby, its alright come go with me, you will see city life, city life
I need you when the sun goes down, you pick me up when youre around
Come on, come on now, we can have a good time, this town aint much unless youre here with me
Its like a woman, crazy just like a puppy, lazy
Just like a pretty jealous wife, I cant get free from city life
Secluded bars humming behind the scenes, hot wild guitars strumming, promising dreams
Thats alright baby, its alright come go with me and you will see city life, city life
I dont want to be alone, stay with me now, dont go home
Its a date, well stay out late and party, city lifes okay when youre with me
Its like a lion sleeping just like a willow weeping,
A melting pot for fun and strife cant get away from city life
City life baby, city life, its alright baby, its alright city life, city life....

Round Are Away
The paper boy is working before he goes
Lying to the teacher he knows he knows
He didn't and he should've
Brought his lines in yesterday
Ernie bangs the sound and the day begins
The letterbox is open and your cash falls in
I'll meet you at the office
Just before the staff clock in
Round are way the birds are singing
Round are way the sun shines bright
Round are way the birds sing for yer
The already know yer
The game is kicking off in around the park
It's twenty five a side and before it's dark
There's gonna be a loser
And you know the next goal wins
Cab it to the front as it's called a draw
Everybody's knockin at yours once more
Ernie bangs the sound
And no one's spoken since half past four

Pulling Life On The Mercy Of Others
The smoky restaurant on the roadside
Was waiting for its first customer
Ready with local South Indian menu
The owner was turning impatient
Pulling out and pushing in
His cash box
Hotel waiters standing close
To their areas of service
I was watching all of them
Positioning myself outside the premises
I was too keen to see their first customer
This hotel serves you the best
Among all the such outlets
In this part of the city
It may be business strategy, I do not know
The quality of the food initially served
Turns less acceptable to me as time passes
That is why, I come very early in the morning
So that I get the good stuff
I took off my eyes from the staff

The Fog
Here in this town they have all got the blues
As the paper boy takes off without any news
Angels have wings you can feel free to use
The corner store drugs you can freely abuse
And Im yelling and screaming cause baby youre driving me crazy
So life on your own has been vacant and cold
Everyones getting somewhere and youre getting old
Career opportunities they all have been sold
Along with your body and most of your soul
And Im yelling and screaming cause baby youre driving me crazy
If I could spare more remorse from my emptied out pores I would maybe
Cause the fogs getting thicker the worlds spinning fast
The chaos is building, its going too last
And its so hard to see and youre so hard to find
The days when I think I am losing my mind
So keep painting pictures of beautiful scenes
Striking the canvas with deep blues and greens
When you start frowning they think youre obscene
As you work overtime to make sure they can dream
Im yelling and screaming cause baby youre driving me crazy
