When I was an adolescent, I was obsessed with having many commercial things, cars, clothes, stupid things. Now that I have all that, I include/understand that the superfluous things can turn to you into a very stupid idiot-type. In East Germany there were very few things, but there was also a feeling of solidarity that no longer exists. Now we are up to the neck in consumption, the ego, the individualism. Now before friendship, it is merchandise.

I'm ambitious but I'm not particularly competitive. I'll try to get roles, as I think it's healthy to go for things, but... I think there's too much competition between women already. It's important to have female solidarity and support each other and other actresses.

This is a story not for the dainty elves and pixies
But for the youthful X-generation born in the rolling sixties
Just like Woodstock had a twin in Altamont
The west and the east united in the 80s at the center of a pont

The iron curtain came down in this bygone era
No place for communist royalty nor for a beret or a tiara
As the winds of change blew through Gorky park
Flames of solidarity were lighted for a fervent spark

On the east side of the Brandenburg gate crowds duly did flock
To escape the communism's iron fist lock
As the wall came tumbling down even faster than humpty-dumpty
Rolling on the ground were the scraps of a barrier almighty

Africa Today

Where is Nationalism, Solidarity, Socialism?
All I see are the Civil wars, we are fighting
together for power, demoralizing our people.

I'm talking about Dictatorship, Autocracy,
Despotism, Monocracy, Where is the Freedom,
independence, Equality, Self Determination we
fought for.

Could Nkwame Nkrummah, Jomo Kenyatta,
Kamuzu Banda, Joshua Nkomo have imagined
that Africa would be like this after they fought for it?
What would they be thinking when they see Africa like
this, deteriorating in our hands?

We are free but our minds are still in chains.
Where is African Unity?
We are allowing the lines of the borders to separate us.

The fall
was imminent

Hero Worshiping

A Hero he is no doubt –

The Sea Deceives Me

The pages of the calendar fall to the ground,
crunch crunch crunch under our feet,
grinding themselves to dust.
Hours and numbers, days and months cover the earth with mosaic colors
as if a tempest had broken open a damn and they flood out into our fields, we rake them up, unspoken we burn them, we stuff them in threadbare and patchy clothing, we make scarecrows up to look like our former selves,
others we stuff in gutters and drains.
There are pages from a hundred years back in some darkening silence in the deepest of woodlands, these leaves mixed with the dirtiest of branches; histories at the foot of precipices slouching on the meanders of rivers flowing into the sunset, they dwell in the pits of caves, and in the nests of baby birds.
We lay our backs down and swim through the pages, we fall asleep and neglect our lazy day, the sounds and the smells, the tastes and the textures of the times we've inherited (we have (and the time ahead.)
New years take shape and more time buds, the seasons pass and we decorate the decaying earth.
new days are piled up: in piles of bills, piles of events, piles of junk mail, invitations torn and abandoned, occasions attended and written about, solidarities and intimacies cherished and worshiped

They are still there in the air- you act as if they're not passing by,
new pages swiftly sway in the winds hand and rest on the earth. In numbers and records.
The pointless statistics of time, taken time and time again.
We waste our time on something like memories and plans
until time our runs out for us
like counting the fallen leaves as a derelict train creeps through the country - how absurdly endless a task
time is not statistics nor even measurable
time is not a standard of options weighable,
time is not a parquet floor where a curtain stretches, that you shoot marbles across, or even throw a rug over then slowly rock yourself to sleep on
