Butterfly Words

A poem is a catch
Of butterfly words
That I chase with a pen
Within a paper mesh

The similes scamper
But I pinch their rims
My eyes are for rhyme
Though I never have time

I seek to make beauty
Collected in prose
In a language safari
For a substitute Hobby

My styles amateur
And not so complex
But I love a good Verse
With rare Haiku figures

A stroke of insight

The therapist, accompanying her
on that first safari to the Laundromat,
as she gazed at coins that were meaningless,
said 'what’s one and one? '

'What’s a one? ' she replied;
and somewhere, at the back
of life’s circling cycle, wisdom met
with innocence, and cried and laughed...

Early in her recovery,
her brain’s left hemisphere yet to heal,
she could not speak her messages
and yet – both hemispheres collaborating - still
could sing them..
as perhaps, the angels know.

Happy is the Toad
Not Squashed on the Road.
Happy is the white Rabbit
Not trapped in some Cabinet.
Happy is a desert Camel
Not covered with Enamel.
Happy is a wagging Dog
Not lost in some misty Fog.
Happy is a Giraffes's neck
Not caught in some Lariat.
Happy is a Blue Whale
Not drowned inside a pail.

Sabbatical

The leave granted to a spinster university teacher
for her studies and travel.
She chose one of the students for accompanying
who was born blind and he carried his Braille.
They went to a safari park and she explained him
about the exotic wild animals, their color and nature.
When she held the saintly student's hand
she felt the charisma and saw his charming face.
The second day they traveled on a train to a remote village
where a smallholding runs by her far relative.
The old couple gave them lodging that particular night
and they slept together on a straw mattress.
This is the story of an unusual love begins
and who knows where it ends?

Faith In Snappy Chimp Champion After John Dryden Happy The Man

Snappy chimp champion who can alone
candid cavort, call every faith his own:
secure within, who'd win reprieve or stay
from faithless human safari foray.
Be fair or foul or jungle rain or shine
who joy possesses man can't undermine,
pollution free, from storied past draws power,
may say what's been has been, when mankind's had its hour

The Jungle Line

Rousseau walks on trumpet paths
Safaris to the heart of all that jazz
Through I bars and girders-through wires and pipes
The mathematic circuits of the modern nights
Through huts, through harlem, through jails and gospel pews
Through the class on park and the trash on vine
Through europe and the deep deep heart of dixie blue
Through savage progress cuts the jungle line
In a low-cut blouse she brings the beer
Rousseau paints a jungle flower behind her ear
Those cannibals-of shuck and jive
Theyll eat a working girl like her alive
With his hard-edged eye and his steady hand

a lonely evening shining poorly

a masculine star long far

On The Move

The elephant was on the move,
Vivaciously, of course,
As if he had something to prove,
A legend to enforce.
With ears as big as suitcases
And tusks like scimitars,
He looked fierce at all those faces
That stared from jeeps and cars.
The tourists on safari
Could scarce believe their eyes...
This giant was a sight to see...
So ancient and so wise...
Their cameras clicked and clicked again,
As if a strategem,
To overcome their fears right then,
As he looked down on them.
A sudden move and he would charge,
Unchanged, untamed, born wild.
A raging bull, unleashed, at large -
He cared not if they smiled...

I'm New at This

A robust return to a 'then' that has diminished...
Complete with backyard barbecues,
And Sun drenched bathers.
Sitting along the family pool,
That's fenced in and envied...
By binocular using neighbors.
Can now be considered as historical occurrences...
Of a time when plastic reigned.
And good credit was an interpretation,
Of a bank that has closed.
With executives overqualified to flip burgers.
While those too poor to step through doors,
Without being escorted out by security guards...
Now find themselves annoyed by those complaining,
About what they don't have and the difficulties experienced...
Trying to feed themselves on foodstamps.

'You're kidding?
Well...
I'm one of those 'useless' welfare people.
