Quotes about New Year's Eve, page 2
The only way to spend New Year's Eve is either quietly with friends or in a brothel. Otherwise when the evening ends and people pair off, someone is bound to be left in tears.

I don't even drink! I can't stand the taste of alcohol. Every New Year's Eve I try one drink and every time it makes me feel sick. So I don't touch booze - I'm always the designated driver.

Shaving my head was a millennium ritual, to not let it pass as just another New Year's Eve. A lot has happened to me in the last couple of years, personally and spiritually. I wanted to mark it for myself.

New Year's Eve
New Year’s Eve.
New Years Eve at the hotel, a posh place my lawyer was there too
I thought of all the money I had paid him for my divorce.
Eight o’clock five hours to midnight it was like watching a kettle boil.
The wine, plenty of it helped, I soon joined the festivities. The food
wasn’t up to much not for all the money I had paid, my new wife told
me to shut up and enjoy myself. Then I got drunk and it was midnight.
My solicitor behaved like clown and danced like a demented monkey.
Three o’clock when we got home, “wasn’t a lovely party” my wife said.
This must have been the same time as Coptic Christians, in Cairo,
coming out of a church after midnight mass…were blown up.

I saw Ronnie Hawkins play near my hometown, Port Dover, Ontario, and I saw him play there on New Year's Eve and the following spring I booked myself to be his opening act on maybe five shows, and he hired me after the first night.

New Year's Eve, we're going to be doing a concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Symphony Hall. It makes me feel good, because of all the people they could have had, they wanted me! We do have to do a little work with the rhythm section.

‘Wish You A Happy New Year 2008! ’
The storms of life are gone, perhaps;
The winds of change have blown over;
Black-clouds that loomed have cleared at last;
Our strife and woes are things of past!
The old year cruised off splendidly;
It brought more blessings than we thought;
The New Year’s Eve was not that good;
Nevertheless thank God, we should.
Let’s hope, the New Year brings more joys;
Let’s pray the world is fairer still;
Let’s put our minds and hearts and souls,
Performing gladly newer roles!
The God of love abandons none;
The Lord of Truth forsakes no one;
The caring God will meet our wants:
Let’s work better than even ants!

New Year Wish
'GOOD LUCK', 'GOOD LUCK'
Rings mid-night bell on New Year's Eve
Twinkling stars surround the moon tonight
As day breaks, they will be out of sight
Clock is ticking away, to bring in new day
Its time for all of us to pray, to say
'Oh GOD! THANK YOU '
'Bless Us with Love, Happiness, Health, Peace and Prosperity'
'Let there be Unity in Diversity'
'Let all the coming days and years be Joyful'
'Let the World be Beautiful'
Let us smile with the first Sunshine
Feel the Happiness thats Divine
As the gentle breeze touches, soul arouses
Fresh as dew on sweet scented roses
Its a New Beginning for me and you
To Fulfil Wishes Old and New
Everything is warm and bright
Flowers bloom in new light
'Let all the coming days and years be Joyful'

0009 God's New Year Hangover
I’m wondering –
with, I trust, due circumspection
with respect to these holy, mighty matters
yet with the open mind
which He has risked mankind and me with,
whether He keeps a tally
or even an annual journal
of mankind’s cavortings around God’s Christmas…
and how mankind approaches
God’s seasoned, ordained New Year,
His holy, spirited Hogmanay.
Does He receive intelligence,
flights of angels pushing their way -
or unaffected, for who knows? –
through cyberspace, the ether, as it was
and is and ever shall be,
bringing news of how the Good News
went down this year;
the statistics, perhaps, of how many

New-Year's Eve
Good old days--dear old days
When my heart beat high and bold--
When the things of earth seemed full of life,
And the future a haze of gold!
Oh, merry was I that winter night,
And gleeful our little one's din,
And tender the grace of my darling's face
As we watched the new year in.
But a voice--a spectre's, that mocked at love--
Came out of the yonder hall;
'Tick-tock, tick-tock!' 't was the solemn clock
That ruefully croaked to all.
Yet what knew we of the griefs to be
In the year we longed to greet?
Love--love was the theme of the sweet, sweet dream
I fancied might never fleet!
But the spectre stood in that yonder gloom,
And these were the words it spake,
'Tick-tock, tick-tock'--and they seemed to mock

On This New Year's Eve
On this New Year's Eve
Let's cherish pretty tenderly
The most precious feelings to live
With family and true friends in harmony!
Let's be grateful to The Supreme God
For everyday's enlightening
Greeting Him in a humble nod
Which will last for our living.
Let's treasure all mysteries
That were beyond one's understanding
Encompassing noble life stories
A keepsake of wonder and never-ending!

The Cossacks
For Jews, the Cossacks are always coming.
Therefore I think the sun spot on my arm
is melanoma. Therefore I celebrate
New Year's Eve by counting
my annual dead.
My mother, when she was dying,
spoke to her visitors of books
and travel, displaying serenity
as a form of manners, though
I could tell the difference.
But when I watched you planning
for a life you knew
you'd never have, I couldn't explain
your genuine smile in the face
of disaster. Was it denial
laced with acceptance? Or was it
generations of being English--

Resolutions
Each New Year's Eve I used to brood
On my misdoings of the past,
And vowed: "This year I'll be so good -
Well, haply better than the last."
My record of reforms I read
To Mum who listened sweetly to it:
"Why plan all this, my son?" she said;
"Just do it."
Of her wise words I've often thought -
Aye, sometimes with a pang of pain,
When resolutions come to naught,
And high resolves are sadly vain;
The human heart from failure bleeds;
Hopes may be wrecked so that we rue them . . .
Don't let us dream of lovely deeds -
Just do them.
And so, my son, uphold your pride.
Believe serenely in your soul.

Tony The Race Car Driver
His name is Tony, but I call him Tone,
he has a D.J. business to play your songs,
while you dance all night long.
Now I met him one night on New Year's Eve,
I was dancing on a table and did not see,
Tony sitting below me at the bar,
he smiled at me then gave me his business card.
Scorpio was the name of his D.J. business,
he also plays the drums, I do confess.
Now, he has one shy Persian cat,
she hides under the couch,
no one knows where's she's at.
Other than that, he watches football
Fan of the Pittsburg Stealers,
they lost over Wisc. last year, people where squealing.
Tony has a red corvette that I can't drive,
Tony goes real fast, thank God he's still alive.
Now Tony and his Uncle Lenny are really fun,
they always joking around with everyone.
Thanks Tone, I hope you get the girl,

Jim’s Mad
On New Year’s Eve,
While Sue was asleep,
Skunky became a stealing creep,
He stole a silver corkscrew that was cheap,
For it was only a dollar at the dollar store,
Skunky tried to say it was soo much more.
Yes, he told his 'made up lies' to Sue,
Saying 'it only came in the colors of red or blue,
They don’t make the silver ones anymore, '
But that’s not what Jim said,
as he shook his head
'Why he stole from me
I’ll bonk him in the ________'

Americans In Paris
Americans in Paris
rarely will embarrass
the Frenchies,
who, when they’re in Manhattan
regard as ill-begotten
our wenches,
since they don’t give French kisses
like those a Frenchman’s missus
provides.
Unlike the taxi horn
George scouted, Frenchmen scorn
as girl guides
without baton
Manhattan.
Inspired by a TV performance of “American in Paris” by George Gershwin, performed by the NY Philharmonic conducted by Alan Gilbert in a New Year’s eve concert that included five Cole Porter songs sung by Thomas Hampson, including “Why Gay Paree? ” a favorite of Hampson, who was interviewed by Alec Baldwin before the performance.

Trooper Campbell
One day old Trooper Campbell
Rode out to Blackman's Run,
His cap-peak and his sabre
Were glancing in the sun.
'Twas New Year's Eve, and slowly
Across the ridges low
The sad Old Year was drifting
To where the old years go.
The trooper's mind was reading
The love-page of his life --
His love for Mary Wylie
Ere she was Blackman's wife;
He sorrowed for the sorrows
Of the heart a rival won,
For he knew that there was trouble
Out there on Blackman's Run.
The sapling shades had lengthened,
The summer day was late,

Holiday Seasonings
Like a Wind-Up Toy
herky-jerky
lurchy-lurchy
I careen
against the Murky
shopping, shopping
gift-choosing
Auntie present-thinking
what is best
for each and every one;
House to Decorate
Dinner to Make
Relatives to Tolerate
Neighbor's caroling
unsure I am
of what grandma
will say
to embarrass
the boss;
