Watch The Birdie
(d. raye/g. paul)
(chorus)
Watch the birdie and take a camera candid shot
Watch the birdie, come on and give it all you got
Watch the birdie, just look around and pick a spot and hold it
(chorus 2)
Watch the birdie, just strike a funny pose a while
Watch the birdie and you can beat that pose a mile
Watch the birdie, let me see your pretty smile and hold it
(bridge)
Looking for a tall dark handsome man
With eyes of blue and golden tan
Strong white teeth like joel mccrea
Hey you, get out of the way

HI Handsome!
Once there was a handsome birdie,
No one more handsome than he.
Until one day he saw a dandy,
Staring back all haughty,
Can't believe his eyes, the little birdie,
Another birdie more handsome than he!

Shore Leave Ornithology
Slacks, coffee trend
I could have been in the us navy
Flapping grey, coffee smoke
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Where the hell were you?
Rough stencil, print music
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard coffee
Saxophone mention barbers, n.y.
The cigarette was burning, the flat shoes
Stool
Bongo, coffee, don't mention that black man
The leather-coat was his
Where was she?
Could have been in the us navy
Flow beating air, table-top, shoulder slung
Shore leave, no sailors here
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard
Liquor slacks twisting
The cigarette was burning
The flat shoes, the flat shoes, the flat shoes

Cradle Song
What does little birdie say
In her nest at peep of day?
Let me fly, says little birdie,
Mother, let me fly away.
Birdie, rest a little longer,
Till thy little wings are stronger.
So she rests a little longer,
Then she flies away.
What does little baby say,
In her bed at peep of day?
Baby says, like little birdie,
Let me rise and fly away.
Baby, sleep a little longer,
Till thy little limbs are stronger.
If she sleeps a little longer,
Baby too shall fly away.

Bus Poem #4
A bird drops from the sky, hops to a new twig.
From the ground a cat spies him, falls in love.
Birdie strops his beak on a branch.
Cat pretends not to notice.
Birdie stretches his leg. Shuffles his wings.
Cat makes love to his paw.
A yellow feather drifts slowly to earth.
With its voice of blood cat's heart says 'ah'.
Called to the skies the birdie flies. Away.
Cat, broken-hearted, washes his ears with his tears.

Drug of Choice
Birdie, down it goes
Smoothed over with a candy-coated-slime
No claws to nibble-n-chew
At the i-n-s-i-d-e of you, to poison
The blood-swell.
Birdie, down it went
Tastes like acid-mixed-cement
But if it works, doitdoitdoit
It won't kill you much f-a-s-t-e-r
Than the sweet green animal-master.
Birdie, almost dead
Feels like hot stones in the belly
Shall it un-birth, and vomit up red?
Or send you down to rest-your-head
This chemical snare.

Afternoon Dip
Yes, the stream sure looked exciting
And pleased the tiger's eyes,
With his memories delighting,
He ran to Paradise!
He squelched his way on soft warm mud
And leapt into the air,
To part the waters with a thud
That made the birdies stare!
'He's back! ' they said in unison...
'We'll never get him out! '
They watched him while he had his fun
As he splashed all about...
'He's acting like a cub again!
Just like he did last week!
You'd never guess that he was ten
And simply past his peak! '
The tiger paused, looked up a spell...
'What's that! ? ' he growled aloud!

His Wife and Baby
In the lone place of the leaves,
Where they touch the hanging eaves,
There sprang a spray of joyous song that sounded sweet and sturdy;
And the baby in the bed
Raised the shining of his head,
And pulled the mother's lids apart to wake and watch the birdie.
She kissed lip-dimples sweet,
The red soles of his feet,
The waving palms that patted hers as wind-blown blossoms wander;
He twined her tresses silk
Round his neck as white as milk
'Now, baby, say what birdie sings upon his green spray yonder.'
'He sings a plenty things
Just watch him wash his wings!
He says Papa will march to-day with drums home through the city.
Here, birdie, here's my cup.
You drink the milk all up;
I'll kiss you, birdie, now you're washed like baby clean and pretty.'

Bird of pray, bird of pray
Fly in high. fly in high

Bird of pray, bird of pray
Jump me pass apart, fly in high

T-birds
Circle high, circle low.
Jammers fly, t-birds.
You show, you show, whiplash go.
You show, you show, t-birds. mighty bird.
T-bird, my mighty bird.
On the dot in the slot, tie the knot.
On the dot timed kisses.
In the slot on the dot, tie the knot.
In the slot, no misses.
Mighty bird.
T-bird, my mighty bird.
T-bird, mighty bird.
Black sun conquerer.
Two thousand years ago... a great race... warriors... lived in... they had many gods... mayans... gods... mazatlan... (if you can fill in these blanks please email lab@primenet.com)
Black sun worshipper.
Coil it up, wind it out, strike it hot!
Coil it up plumed serpent.
Coil it up, wind it out, strike it hot!
Coil it up, my t-bird.
Serpent curl.

Message From The Country
Here the roar a coming
Here the roar a coming
Here the roar a coming now
Got news for your mother
Got news for your mother
Got news for your mother tonight
Sister I have touched the evergreen
And I promise that its life should go unseen
Now it [saves/says? ] the birds upon the fire
And the message from the country rises higher
Hear the birdie calling
Hear the birdie calling
Hear the birdie calling for life
Message from the country
Message from the country
Message from the country rising high
Sister I have touched the evergreen
And I promise that its life should go unseen
Now it [saves/says? ] the birds upon the fire
And the message from the country rises higher

Caged Bird
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still

Ay De Mi
O bird, that used to press,
Thy head against my cheek
With touch that seem'd to speak,
And ask a tender 'yes' -
Ay de mi, my bird:
Ay de mi, my bird, my bird -
Ay de mi, my bird.
O tender downy breast,
And warmly beating heart,
That beating seem'd a part
Of me who gave it rest -
Ay de mi, my bird:
Ay de mi, my bird, my bird -
Ay de mi, my bird.

BirdSong Part Two
A gentle trill comes through the breeze
A warbler sings its song
'Tis the Deity's Golden Rhapsody
How could such beauty e'er be wrong?
Gentle feathers plume their pride
In the mornings most dewy glow
A choir of feathered Angels upon the wing
Drown out morose cries of days woe
Our birds are true Aristocrats
Their own melody-a reigning crown
Dressing up a kingdom of bucholic vales
Bringing forth smiles instead of frowns
'Tis a Birdsong World- i am told
'Tis a Birdsong Season- O' Spring
So sorry to eventually see them all go
With the Winter the cold wind brings
Birdsong -Warblers travel deeper south
Seeking they -the warmth O' the Sun
Bringing their Psalms of Godly songs
To deep south climbs- where Spring has just begun

The Sea-Bird's Song
On the deep is the mariner's danger,
On the deep is the mariner's death;
Who, to fear of the tempest a stranger,
Sees the last bubble burst of his breath?
'T is the sea-bird, sea-bird, sea-bird,
Lone looker on despair;
The sea-bird, sea-bird, sea-bird,
The only witness there.
Who watches their course, who so mildly
Careen to the kiss of the breeze?
Who lists to their shrieks, who so wildly
Are clasped in the arms of the seas?
'T is the sea-bird, &c.
Who hovers on high o'er the lover,
And her who has clung to his neck?
Whose wing is the wing that can cover,
With its shadow, the foundering wreck?
'T is the sea-bird, &c.

Birds in Fog
Fog breathes cold grey hush
Over birdsong-deafened fields
As winter wants peace.
