Aint This The Life
Livin way up now in a penthouse high
Our steaks are rare and our martinis dry
Folks below they say it aint fair
Hell with them, I really dont care
Joie de vivre, mon amie
Aint this the life
Having a party on a big jet plane
I got so drunk that I could feel no pain
Hangin out in acapulco,
Drinkin rum and sniffin co-co
Pretty senorita look this way
Dancing through the night
Everythings alright
Girlfriend and a wife
Aint this the life, aint this the life
Aint this the life, baby, baby, baby . . .
Tropical island in the deep blue sea
The natives are friendly and the lobsters free
Sipping cognac like a french king
Plenty of room, I own the whole thing

What was taught fought with that wrought to sought
Democratic leaders work to keep voters rites fired up over a fiery election right
and forgive them, instead of seeking revenge, knowing not to fight
policy overly simplistic at times less inspiring works sung
in teaching respect for authority while children are still young.
God will be there to comfort you and work within the soul of your beloved child.
Men of this world do not desire righteous woman or those meek and mild.
This world seeks and does work to destroy that purity,
because of our mental, moral putrid disunity.
God taught us how to rear taken children, how to take care of bereft,
and how to have courage to fight the good fight of faith then left.
Ability to fight illness by eating teaching and community hospitals ere
help support our continuing work by being wrought with sought that ought here.

to solve problems with recognition, emphasize how God works in vision,
constantly seeking a consistently faithful position.

Goin' To California (live London 1971)
Spent my days with a woman unkind
Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start
Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane
Never let them tell you that they're all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey
Wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
As the children of the sun began to awake.
Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.
To find a queen without a king;
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings.

The Three Great Stimulants
I picked the morning paper off the floor
It was full of other peoples little wars
Wouldnt they like their peace
Dont we get bored
And we call for the three great stimulants
Of the exhausted ones
Artifice, brutality and innocence
Artifice and innocence
No tanks have ever rumbled through these streets
And the drone of planes at night has never frightened me
I keep the hours and the company that I please
And we call for the three great stimulants
Of the exhausted ones
Artifice, brutality and innocence
Artifice and innocence
Oh and deep in the night
Our appetites find us
Release us and bind us
Deep in the night
While madmen sit up building bombs

The Old Meeting House
Its quiet graves were made for peace till Gabriel blows his horn.
Those wise old elms could hear no cry
Of all that distant agony—
Only the red-winged blackbird, and the rustle of thick ripe corn.
The blue jay, perched upon that bronze, with bright unweeting eye
Could never read the names that signed
The noblest charter of mankind;
But all of them were names we knew beneath our English skies.
And on the low gray headstones, with their crumbling weather-stains,
—Though cardinal birds, like drops of blood,
Flickered across the haunted wood,—
The names you’d see were names that woke like flowers in English lanes
John Applegate was fast asleep; and Temperance Olden, too.
And David Worth had quite forgot

Hymn Of The Big Wheel
Horace andy
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
Theres a hole in my soul like a cavity
Seems the world is out to gather just by gravity
The wheel keeps turning the skys rearranging
Look my son the weather is changing
Id like to feel that you could be free
Look up at the blue skies beneath a new tree
Sometime again
Youll turn green and the sea turns red
My son I said the power of ? ? ? s over my head
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
We sang about the sun and danced about the trees
And we listened to the whisper of the city on the breeze

Johnny Goes To War
At the age of eighteen
just after writing his final matriculation exam,
Johnny is called up to do military service
and when the pickup on the farm
have two flat tyres
and Johnny cannot get to the station in time,
he is fetched by three broad shouldered
military policemen who initially
want to arrest him
and shove him into a waiting military pickup van.
In the army he receives food
that gives him stomach flue
and for the first week
is almost stuck to the loo
and the mash potatoes
coming from a packet as powder,
runs into everything and has no salt in it

Hymn Of The Big Wheel (disc 2)
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
There's a hole in my soul like a cavity
Seems the world is out to gather just by gravity
The wheel keeps turning the sky's rearranging
Look my son the weather is changing
I'd like to feel that you could be free
Look up at the blue skies beneath a new tree
Sometime again
You'll turn green and the sea turns red
My son I said the power of reflections over my head
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
We sang about the sun and danced among the trees
And we listened to the whisper of the city on the breeze
Will you cry in the most in a lead-free zone

Haunted
Evening was in the wood, louring with storm.
A time of drought had sucked the weedy pool
And baked the channels; birds had done with song.
Thirst was a dream of fountains in the moon,
Or willow-music blown across the water
Leisurely sliding on by weir and mill.
Uneasy was the man who wandered, brooding,
His face a little whiter than the dusk.
A drone of sultry wings flicker'd in his head.
The end of sunset burning thro' the boughs
Died in a smear of red; exhausted hours
Cumber'd, and ugly sorrows hemmed him in.
He thought: 'Somewhere there's thunder,' as he strove
To shake off dread; he dared not look behind him,
But stood, the sweat of horror on his face.
He blunder'd down a path, trampling on thistles,
In sudden race to leave the ghostly trees.
And: 'Soon I'll be in open fields,' he thought,

zz American Political Stanzas (President's Day)
When I was a bit too young to understand it well
An Irish family’s prince held the American Throne
He wished us to the moon before it all went to hell
And left a nation mourning and weeping for its own
In the next election his younger brother had tried
Idealism sought the throne, but by violence it died
The sitting old style politician won it in his place
Reign left in the hand of he with tired haggard face
That tired old man would eventually take a beating
By a war from which he was too slow in retreating
So he was replaced before that war’s bitter end
By a paranoid liar who trusted no man as a friend
When that man’s lies were at length revealed
The power of the throne did briefly yield
To a one time hero of a college football field
Whose reign even W.I.N. buttons could not shield

Can I come home with you?
Tell your mama and your papa

Galileo
Galileos head was on the block
The crime was looking up for truth
And as the bombshells of my daily fears explode
I try to trace them to my youth
And then you had to bring up reincarnation
Over a couple of beers the other night
And now Im serving time for mistakes
Made by another in another lifetime
How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light
I call on the resting soul of galileo
King of night vision, king of insight
And then I think about my fear of motion
Which I never could explain
Some other fool across the ocean years ago
Must have crashed his little airplane
How long till my soul gets it right
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light
I call on the resting soul of galileo
King of night vision, king of insight

Science is Unscientific
The Professor rose from his chair.
He moved the book to the middle
Of the table as he stood up.
"Now, listen! " he said in an amicable voice.
"Science prides itself in being factual,
objective, precise, unbiased, detached
and verifiable, free from introversion,
a way of knowing things without added colours
and portraying accurately the physical world
in its own light".
The Turtle was sipping his ginger ale.
"Oh, this description of science is nothing
but a myth", he said. "As I see it,
even the most magnificent accomplishments
of science involve emotions,
an individual sense of wonder and curiosity,
the psychological experience of the rapturous

Initial Impressions - 0160
Initial impressions of Anne: a portrait
here follows, as of that short trip I relate
in amateur adjectives alliterate,
as ever, in jest, the events I narrate.
'Rise six, arrive seven, I mustn't be late,
my meetings eleven, thereon turns my fate.
I mean to be early, I'm sure they won't wait;
rush, hurry to Roissy, take off is at eight!
At first all goes smoothly, check-in at the gate,
with only a briefcase, no baggage nor weight,
on tapis he passed me, has he too a date?
We're sitting apart while to board we await.
The minutes seem seconds while I concentrate
upon my good fortune and evaluate
alternate employment. The chances seem great
in corporate finance, no more to stagnate.

Hey, hey, mama, whats the matter here
Hey, hey, mama, whats the matter here
You didnt have to tell me that you love me so
Y didnt have to love me, mama, let me go
Hey, hey, mama, whats the matter here
You didnt have to make me a total disgrace
Y didnt have to leave me with that beer in my face
Hey, hey, mama, whats the matter here
Uh, thats alright, its awful doggone clear
Hey, hey, baby, why you treat me mean
Oh, oh, baby, why you treat me mean
You didnt have to crucify me like you did
You didnt have to tell me I was just your kid

Garden Street
LONG and drowsy and white and wide,
Villas and arbours on either side,
Pleasant under the cloudless skies,
Garden Street in the sunlight lies.
Twice a day — at the morning hour,
And again when the lights of sunset flower —
Its pavements ring to the footfall-noise
Of men and women, and girls and boys.
Townward, sprightly of foot, they go;
Home they come in the evening glow,
Labours over and questing done —
Some with money and some with none.
Most hours through, from morn to night,
It dreams and dreams in the drowsy light:
No call is there of the huckster-clan,
Of the bottle-oh and the rabbit-man.
Wafted odours of nameless flowers
Perfume the march of the golden hours;
Under the laurels, cooling the eye,
Pools of shade in the sunshine lie.

Chicago [1920's slang]
Left my dump, off to the [Gourmet Cafe]
Ankling it, no need for a hack
I'm a johnnie walker
Stopped a bit to jaw a little
With two wiseheads [Jess] and [Carrianne]
Before work
As we discuss how one of their coffee-and-donut doble
Keep klunking out on them
When I arrived
I poured me a cup of joe
Then took a powder
To find me an ameche
To arrange a get together for tonight
With my tight squeeze
I get back and drink the joe
Shortly afterwards I get jingle-brained
Then I threw a joe
I wake to find me in this heap
Someplace in a back of alley
And was being pulled out by three goons

The Hand of Tong Bao Lin
I stood in front of the guillotine
And paled at the sharpened blade,
The motor hummed as my mind went numb
And my body shook and swayed,
The sweat poured into my open eyes
And blinded and burned like sin,
But I had no choice, I had to be free
Of the Hand of Tong Bao Lin.
I'd worked in China for seven years
In the city of old Qingdao,
If I hadn't been such a hero, I
Would still be working there now;
But I got involved in a scuffle there
When a woman was being attacked,
He'd snatched her bag and I snatched it too,
So he turned on me, and hacked.
I'd heard of the mean Hand-Chopper Gang,
Just petty crims on the whole,
