Amoako

If you kill a snake, try to cut off its head;
For many are they which will wake up to bit you again.
Amoako is your name and,
You need a muttonfish to guide your lover;
But like a visit to the Island of Guernsey,
Try to cut off the head of the snake whenever you kill it.

Amoako is your name and,
Your love is served raw and sliced at times;
But try to live with your lover like,
An indigenous Maori of New Zealand.
Life is like that at times and we all need a guide,
But who the cap fits must surely wear it;
So try to do your best for your lover at all times.

It Comes - Part 5

(It is suggested that the reader reads Parts 1,2,3, and 4 first)

Dr Maitland shook his head,
“I am saying the elements
in the structure of the gel
are similar to that produced by a spider.”
“Then what are you implying then Dr? ”
“That the creature is a mutated form of cephalopod
that has accidentally surfaced in search of food.
Living in the darkness, it will feed at night.
As we know, the ships have disappeared in the darkness.
My theory is that the creature ejects the gel over the ship.
The substance with its sticky nature
virtually gules everything from floating away,
hence no wreckage or debris.
It then drags it down into the depths
to a place to devour it at it leisure.”

“We know that giant squids exist and have evidence of that.*

The Purple Lady

A welcome Christmas break.
Half a week off the turps.

Time for wine, whiskey, gin,
vodka, sambuca, ouzo and peach schnapps.
Or peach schnapps vodka ouzo combinations.

But what is the exact formula
for Helen’s secret recipe?
A really well mixed purple lady?

Sixty percent meths
to forty percent
straight orange juice.

Or meths seventy thirty
to get really spacy
before getting drunk.

John Heki

Should Switzerland’s rude rocks be held the throne
Of freedom (sanctioned there by God to quell
All proud invaders, Gessler-like o’erthrown!)
Because the echoes in their caves that dwell
Once leaped exultant at the shout of Tell?
And thine, New Zealand, yet be left unknown
To glory, now that thy dark chief hath sown
Broad over them a like memorial spell?
Should Wallace be a word time ne’er may lose?
And Hofer (he who for his mountains died
Rather than see the spoiler there abuse
Freedom’s rock-alter!) Be a sound of pride
Yet Heki’s name remain unglorified
In the grand lore of the heroic muse

Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

infamous poet James K Baxter attains
distilled depth in 'Pig Island Letters (2) '
but I believe an OE would have added
extra dimensions in maturity to James

K to other stay at home kiwi artists?
experience of living in other countries
cultures marrying into different mind
concepts thought altering transitions...

birth into a multicultural awareness
realization added artistic dimensions...
what is touchstone mythic New Zealand
poets ability to titillate pub audiences?

An old henchman of a leading politician who sings in an underground Bar!

You can request any song
from ancient cowboy singer
to modern soprano.
When he's drunk
You can hear the strong speeches
from Hitler to Polpot & Idi Amin
And rest of all?
After sometimes he weeps
Then he mimics of all over the World
Bygone innocent Presidents
Until the Manager drags him out
from his neck?

to my school days brotherly friend Rufus Rajanathan(Sammy Davis)
who resides in New Zealand now as a Chartered Accountant if I am not mistaken, he has published a book regarding the cruel ethnic violence in our country(with a historical background) .........we never had any misunderstandings though he's Tamil because we believed the real humanity!

The Brass Monkey

We live on in
separate salient
parallel lives.
After forced final
silent thundering
non-communicative
goodbyes.

Andrea’s so extreme
weekend winter
tenting biking.
At annual winter
Brass Monkey
rally biker met.

Engines roar
friends ride
roaring off together.
Road embracing

Moral Individual Decisions

At Teacher’s College in Christchurch New Zealand years ago.
The tutor gave us teacher trainee students a moral lesson.
She said ‘If a student asks you a teacher this moral question.’
‘Is it wrong to steal? ’ You must answer the student thus.
‘There is no right or wrong each person decides by individual right.’
‘No right or wrong? ’ ‘Really? ’ ‘The laws are not written so.’

Stealing is a crime prison is conviction caught punishment.
Crime does not pay ultimately bursting packed prisons say.
‘So is stealing right or wrong? ’ Crime is ticking time bomb.
To break laws a serious state offense prison sentenced penitence.
Moral individual decisions politically correct concept gone astray.

The Loneliness Of A Homecoming

the man older than me
(by 20 years) writes about his
going back home
(after 30 years of working
in the U.S.) AND he was
talking about
changes: the old house where he
spent his childhood
was demolished giving way to a new
mall,
the creek was reclaimed
for an italian restaurant

the park is still there
dotting with the younger generation
who cannot recognize him
neither him knowing them

he is a stranger now in his
hometown

You Will Find Poverty

You will find poverty in the U S and Great Britain, in France and in Japan,
In Canada and in Australia, New Zealand as well as Iran
In South America and Europe, Africa and all through Asia as well
Throughout the Human World some in their Earthly Hell
In the past decade millions of people of hunger have died
As the gap between the haves and the have nots grow wide
In the World's wealthiest Countries homeless people not rare
So many poor people for every millionaire
And the social divide growing wider by the day
And that the poor are growing poorer does seem sad to say
In The Human World poverty of varying degrees
In the refugee camps millions of refugees
And poverty not a stranger anywhere
So many poor souls in the big World out there.

The Powerful Japan Earthquake

Because one Tectonic plate was sliding under the other plate
The powerful Japan earthquake shifted the earth's axis position
Deforming it and that temblor already had caused Earth to rotate
Faster than before when Hawaii reached these waves transmission.

This temblor may have affected the length of the Earth's days
So, each day may be quite two microseconds shorter than before.
Some parts of this country were moved twelve feet as scientists say,
The tremors sent a monster tsunami which slammed into the shore.

The aftershocks were rapidly continuing without decreasing in frequency
While a rupture near the boundary between those tectonic plates occured.
Usually, the Pacific plate slowly moves to westwards at a very low velocity.
This quake was caused by Pacific and American plates boundary rupture.

The dissipation of the heat from the mantle was a real source of energy
For Pacific plate thrusting underneath the Japan and Eurasia plate.
This drive of plate tectonics was possible because of the excess density,
'Cause lithosphere became dense by cooling until having a solid state.

New Zealand’s Great Alpine Fault Spring Loaded

historical patterns of past earthquakes
current research on great alpine fault
indicate alpine fault is ready to rupture

294 years since last great earthquake
current pressures in tectonic plates
make it probable cue next earthquake

will occur in present next six years
probabilities tell us how unsurprised
prepared shall be when it happens

further look further into distant future
view how less likely this earthquake becomes
because it is most likely to occur now!

for more than 400 years
between pressure ruptures
half the time it may go

Ancient Dust Of My Homeland

Spirit of Mystic Aoteaora, enter into me
Land of Long White Cloud, enter into me
Spirit of My Forebears Ancestors, enter into me
Spirit you called Legendary Fairy Folk, enter into me

Spirit of ice capped southern mountains,
rivers forests glaciers, enter into me
Spirit of this old mystic majestic land,
encapsulating my birthright, enter into me

Dark majestic nights descend
upon wild west coast beaches,
Moonlight lapping serene wave tops
sparkling with ephemeral magic

Spirit of multitudinal diverse natures
Blowing in spray blown sea breezes,
Spirit of ancient dust of my homeland
Spirit of ancient Aotearoa, enter into me

Japanese Cars

I want
my money back.

I Don’t Want
a Jap death trap.

I Want To
get There and Back.

Looks Good but what’s that.
Six Foot under Potato Patch.

Copyright © Terence George Craddock
This poem reflects reported media concern with regard to vehicle safety standards, during the period of its composition in April 1991, over the safety of Japanese’s cars when crashing on New Zealand roads. Design adaptations to suit the demands of kiwi roads and driving habits solved these problems and Japanese cars soon dominated the market. Japanese vans were an even greater danger with unprotected support when rolling and were recalled and redesigned. See also ‘Responsibility In The Workforce’, ‘The Art Of Gift Giving’ and ‘The Art Of Word to gain a realistic insight into true Japanese sense and sensibility.

Have You Ever Watched The Maoris?

Have you ever watched the Maoris dance the Haka
They shout aloud till they are out of breath
They dance it with such fervour and such passion
It's something you're not likely to forget.

The Haka is the war dance of the Maoris
And the All Blacks dance it before every game
It has become the war cry of New Zealand
And it re-ignites the spirit to full flame.

The Maoris were the greatest of great warriors
And the very might of England they did try
They always danced before they went to battle
And for their rights were not afraid to die.

The Haka is the anthem of the Maoris
They learnt it from their fathers as young boys
And they dance it with such fervour and such feeling
That you can see the passion in their dark brown eyes.

Shipyards Of New Zealand

Thought one day Id make my fortune
Like the ancient cavalcades
From the shipyards of new zealand
Chasing history I left home
Moving west into the sunset
Became the sunset of our lives
I was factory made and settled
Safe from storm and broken earth
Theres so much to do every day
Dreams keep on disappearing
We cling to the walls of our heart
Keeps us from coming undone
Now danger lurks behind the spreader
And charlton heston casts the first stone
User interference birthmarks
Clever, not very wise
Let the lamplights keep on shining now
While those searchlights in skies they are turning
We climb to the top of the heap
I wish I could fly

Kallundborg Church ( From The Tent on the Beach)

"Tie stille, barn min!
Imorgen kommer Fin,
Fa'er din,
Og gi'er dich Esbern Snares öine og hjerte at lege med!"
Zealand Rhyme.

"BUILD at Kallundborg by the sea
A church as stately as church may be,
And there shalt thou wed my daughter fair,"
Said the Lord of Nesvek to Esbern Snare.

And the Baron laughed. But Esbern said,
"Though I lose my soul, I will Helva wed!"
And off he strode, in his pride of will,
To the Troll who dwelt in Ulshoi hill.

"Build, O Troll, a church for me
At Kallundborg by the mighty sea;
Build it stately, and build it fair,
