The story unfolds in one thin line, only sarcasm
of teen characters interesting; without philosophy,
great similes or striking passages requiring notes,
focus unilaterally on being a young protagonist
and her Barbie-doll stream of consciousness

Oee, she felt so angry and oh, her heart beating
and ooooh, her breath racing and he looked liked
that and did something brave; after reading this by
order of my daughter to intensify her joy & showing
willingness to support her in her latest undertaking

Christmas Swing

The turkey in our radar range has roamed too far from home
We mailed our Christmas wishes in, now Santa's on his own
Momma wants some tupperware, Daddy wants a Stetson
There's snow on all the prickly pear, the winter round-up's done
It's sleepytime for cowgirls, the night has just begun

Sally's Pigeons

When I was eight I had a friend
with a pirate smile
make believe and play pretend
we were innocent and wild
hopped a fence and slammed the gate
running down my alleyway
in time to watch Sally's pigeons fly

We loved to watch them dive and soar
circle in the sky
free as a bird from three to four
and never knowing why
neighbors pulled their wash back in

Satisfaction

My two grandchildren
both girls
always on my nerves
with their smart little pranks
asked me to accompany
to a fair nearby
I promised but as a standby.

Beautifully Constructed Document

This is an exquisite headache, I have struggled to page 5 and
there still is another ten, though I am required to say when,
the truth is I don't know how to finish this work to make the
deadline, seeking help I found a guru's advice ‘Start paying
attention to how you feel' - not much help there

I feel hot and bothered and desperate and determined to finish
this should I die in the attempt, even writing this is
lessening the time dedicated to my precious text, I cannot
sing about it, diplomatic lines to assure lenders of funds
unlimited and Australians donating many Oz dollars to Africans

A sweet attempt to help Africa from the Middle Ages to the
Enlightenment of infrastructure, irrigation and policies en-
suring good governance - ay, there's the rub, the moment
overseers and supervisors and political reports are needed,
the money is siphoned into an organigram and

Not enough is left for agricultural projects, reorganising the
government does not teach good ethics which should be learnt

You may be FAT but are you BEAUTIFUL?

The definition of beauty doesn't point singularly to physical appearance.
It is undeniable that it is good to be healthy
but it is idolatry to believe only the society's desire is acceptable.

God allowed us look the way we do and loves us thus
He loves the big, the small, the slim, the fat, the muscular, the average, the overweight, the underweight
One that cheers you on physically when you really are unhealthy is the friend to be avoided

If 'you are fat' is a fact, deal with it
Why seek to feel good about ones state when it leads an unhealthy regret down the road.
Pride in one's skin is more than just belief in one's being
It is a fertilizer for ones sense of appreciation
And a reinforcement for a bold mind unfazed by agents that taunt resilience.

Another thought that should not be entertained for a second
Is the idea that though one is healthy, there is a size for the society's perfect
One may work towards feeling better about ones physical look or keeping ones size
but that there is a perfect size to be met is a false attempt geared toward pleasing a fantasial idol

Don't let Barbie dictate what ought and what not

The Loved Stranger

I remembered I'd promised my Aunt Adele before she died
that I'd get in touch with her family in Oz
just to put matters to rest, since they'd not spoken for years
since she upped and went off with this Pom
and left the family without its clever high-earner...

I wasn't looking forward to it with all that bad blood -
'Enough for a vampire's transfusion' said my uncle, the culprit -
but a promise is a promise. I had Auntie's old phone book;
worked out the time here that would be Sunday afternoon in Oz.

The voice was open, strong, friendly - I guessed I'd hit
that great moment when they'd had the barbie,
the few beers after the few beers,
the guests had just gone off
and the washing-up could wait until after a beer...

he'd been away from the family most of his life, one reason and another -

Something Continental Within Me Rising

Something continental within me rising.
Atlantis, surfacing. Pangaea coming back together,
synarthritically, after diversifying its sentient life forms,
from the preludes of the Burgess Shale
to the double-beamed diplodeci of Patagonia.
I can feel the shoulders of an ancient ocean
heaving up beneath me like a Leviathan of life
with the power to smash headlong through
the hull of the lifeboat of my psyche, or tip me
like a seal off this last ice floe I'm clinging to in the Arctic
with four polar bears, Henry Hudson, and a terrified tern.

Sublimely underwhelmed, everything I once transcended
crossing a burning bridge of stars in a long firewalk
now subscended like the underside of a leaf or a starmap
as if my vision of life, and this thread of blood,
this small mindstream at night I am in it, is being
woven and unravelled by the moon I'm giving birth to
in a fire womb of an underwater fumarole
umbilically connected to the magmatic core of the earth,
