fire department

Quotes about fire department, page 3

I talked to General Downer about some of the funding about the National Guard and some of the civil defense workers, the firefighters, the police officers, and the way that FEMA is making them spend that money. We have got a problem there.

Kids are always asked, What are you going to be when you grow up? I needed an answer. So instead of saying, a fireman, or a policeman, I said, a reporter.

Death Of Lust

you're dead now rotting
in my bed

and i am left alone
cleansing myself
of desire

i am still burning from
my hair to my toes
and there is no
fireman coming

Fireman

When fire sits on top of the head
Smoke can hardly enter the nostrils
Feet walking on coals
And fire bugs bite

The fireman loves
He puts on the axe in hand
Better than class rings
Even other rings

Fires burn when they do a job
How the man can burn without
Restriction can burn a man about
Head to toe

The soul is made pure by fire
Man loves to burn
It is even his desire
Afterwards he must
Needs be tended to

The Clepington Catastrophe

'Twas on a Monday morning, and in the year of 1884,
That a fire broke out in Bailie Bradford's store,
Which contained bales of jute and large quantities of waste,
Which the brave firemen ran to extinguish in great haste.

They left their wives that morning without any dread,
Never thinking, at the burning pile, they would be killed dead
By the falling of the rickety and insecure walls;
When I think of it, kind Christians, my heart it appals!

Because it has caused widows and their families to shed briny tears,
For there hasn't been such a destructive fire for many years;
Whereby four brave firemen have perished in the fire,
And for better fathers or husbands no family could desire.

'Twas about five o'clock in the morning the fire did break out,
While one of the workmen was inspecting the premises round about--
Luckily before any one had begun their work for the day--
So he instantly gave the alarm without delay.

When i am stressed out, i just stay silent

it feels like i am overdone
not half-baked, i am more of overcooked
and even charred
the smell of burnt-out paper pervades the room
and the kitchen
yells

fire!

then i think i see the whole house burning
all the neighbors shouting

call the fireman! call the fireman!

some got pails of water, others simply stand and wait
not wishing to join the crowd
and be immersed in the mess

like me, i am feeling stressed out, and i just say silent
and let everything burn

I wanted to do everything. I wanted to be a pilot. I wanted to be a secret agent. I wanted to be a fireman and a doctor, all that. So I related that through movies and stuff.

Evening In A Sugar Orchard

From where I lingered in a lull in march
outside the sugar-house one night for choice,
I called the fireman with a careful voice
And bade him leave the pan and stoke the arch:
'O fireman, give the fire another stoke,
And send more sparks up chimney with the smoke.'
I thought a few might tangle, as they did,
Among bare maple boughs, and in the rare
Hill atmosphere not cease to glow,
And so be added to the moon up there.
The moon, though slight, was moon enough to show
On every tree a bucket with a lid,
And on black ground a bear-skin rug of snow.
The sparks made no attempt to be the moon.
They were content to figure in the trees
As Leo, Orion, and the Pleiades.
And that was what the boughs were full of soon.

A Helpless Situation

there is a fire in your room
the stairs are burned and the windows
have fallen to the ground
you are alone and all the while
there is only one imagination you have
in your mind
all the firemen are dead.

Give It To Me Strait

(reese wilson/stephen grauberger)
(track 2 - time 2:46)
Bartender I may sit here on this barstool all night long
But I wont need much attention
I just need some time alone
So if youll give me some quarters and a bottle of your best
You can just sit back and let the jukebox do the rest
Give it to me strait
Sing am I blue while I sit here and cry
And tell me how my babys gotten so good at goodbye
Its gonna take a fireman to put this old flame out
So come on give it to me strait
Before I come unwound
Lets start off nice and easy
Something like if I know me
And well work our way up slowly to fool hearted memory
Yeah Ive got all night long to sit right here and fall apart
So dont leave out one single song
I know em all by broken heart
Give it to me strait

Burning water in a gloomy winter

Firefighters are like fish
With their hoses
Jumped into the ditch
And searched
Where the mysterious fire started?
And they found at the muddy bottom
The singing beggar of the old fish market
Who drowned holding a cigarette butt!

I've had tons of odd jobs, but I think that I would probably be a fireman because you get to see the results of your job. You get there and there is a house on fire. You leave and there's not a fire anymore.

Wise Child

When they called the role next morning
His was among the missing names.
So many of the Bravest
had perished in the flames.

That firefighters’ widow
Had special reason to be sad:
The baby she was carrying
might never know his Dad.

New Yorkers mourned the fallen,
even as they fought the flames.
The embers of September
would not cool for many days.

In May of the year following
She took her little one
to his Father's graveside
to show his namesake son.

Just before the Harvest

That day stands sharp in focus
Whenever it's called to mind;
A peaceful Sunday Morning,
just before the Harvest time.

They held a picnic benefit
Each year on public land
For the Widows and the Orphans
Of the firefighters clan
.
All gladly paid to enter
and bought chance books besides.
The old men brought their families
The young men brought their brides.

Bouncing on the rides and slides
erected for them here-
The children had the best of times
as their mothers hovered near.

In the context of September 11, there were so many that lost their lives that - how do you single out one person? There were so many acts of heroism that day from so many people, whether it be firemen and police officers in New York and our agents also.

Burning fragile souls

Fire brigade trucks fly on the road in breaking rules
And making an unpleasant noise.
There must be a fire somewhere?
Do they ever trace a human being's fire in the soul
Without a flame and smoke?
