The Wattle Tree
Winter is not yet gone - but now
The birds are carolling from the bough.
And the mist has rolled away
Leaving more beautiful the day.
The sun is out - O come with me
To look upon the wattle tree!
Let misers hoard and hide their gold;
Here there is treasure-trove untold,
In yellow blossom, mass on mass
Spread out for wayfarers who pass
With hearts to feel, and eyes to see
How lovely is the wattle tree.
O strange, O magical! to forget
For a moment care and fret,
Whilst the next spirit, like a cup
Drained of delight, again fills up

December 21 (Life Poem)
Mid-winter solstice, cold dawn,
The shortest day is the longest night.
Day grey skies, walking on rain empty beach.
Night bright carolling and mulled wine warming,
Friends’ festive mood balks bank depression,
The world turns and the days get longer,
On this 3rd rock from the sun
In snow-cold Dublin.

Bells Of Christmas
The bells of christmas go ring-a-ling-ling
They toll for the savior and the peace hell bring
And little children everywhere are caroling
cause the presence of the lord makes their spirits sing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of christmas
Children singing
The bells of notre dame cathedral will chime
And everywhere a princely peace
And there they light the candles up one at a time
For the ones they love at christmastime
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of christmas
Children singing

Carol Of The Bells
Hark! how the bells, sweet silver bells
All seem to say, throw cares away.
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer
To young and old, meek and the bold
Ding, dong, ding, dong, that is their song,
With joyful ring, all caroling
One seems to hear words of good cheer
From everywhere, filling the air
O, how they pound, raising the sound
Oer hill and dale, telling their tale
Gaily they ring, while people sing
Songs of good cheer, christmas is here!
Merry, merry, merry, merry christmas!
Merry, merry, merry, merry christmas!
On, on they send, on without end
Their joyful tone to every home
Hark! how the bells, sweet silver bells
All seem to say, throw cares away.
Christmas is here, bringing good cheer
To young and old, meek and the bold

Covet who will the patronage of Kings
`Covet who will the patronage of Kings,
And pompous titles Emperors bestow,
Splendour, and revelry, and all that brings
A thousand bitter thoughts, a world of woe:
A meadow glistening in an April shower,
A green-banked rivulet, and, near his nest,
A blackbird carolling in guelder bower,
'Tis these that soothe and satisfy the breast.'

This One I Picked For Christmas
How many Angels can sit atop a tree.
This one I picked for Christmas,
To bring such joy for me.
And how many lights can twinkle bright,
As stars?
Trimming branches candycaned.
That lightens up my heart!
How many gifts wished,
Will I get this year?
And how many will share Christmas,
With laughter and not tears.
How many bells will ring,
As carols are heard sung?
How many will make sure,
Goodwill is felt...
By everyone.

Outside the Windy City
Outside the Windy City
lives the Lady Finnegan -
Carol dearly loves the Lord Jehovah
and is a part of His earthly plan.
Her heart has been pierced
by God's Holy Spirit;
for she placed her life before Him
and has chosen to submit.
Her adoration for the King
has burst forth with heart's joy,
from reading her great nephew's literature
within the borders of Illinois.
Now she's become God's messenger
via her gifts of Joe's Christian poetry -
For the fragrance of God's Love
envelopes her with scriptural potpourri.

When I was a kid I joined the circus. I did that. It is true. But it's not like you think. There was a guy, he had his own circus. His name was Carol Jacobs and he owned it. It was a small thing.

A Spring Carol
I
Blithe friend! blithe throstle! Is it thou,
Whom I at last again hear sing,
Perched on thy old accustomed bough,
Poet-prophet of the Spring?
Yes! Singing as thou oft hast sung,
I can see thee there among
The clustered branches of my leafless oak;
Where, thy plumage gray as it,
Thou mightst unsuspected sit,
Didst thou not thyself betray
With thy penetrating lay,
Swelling thy mottled breast at each triumphant stroke.
Wherefore warble half concealed,
When thy notes are shaft and shield,
And no hand that lives would slay
Singer of such a roundelay?
Telling of thy presence thus,
Be nor coy nor timorous!
Sing loud! Sing long!

Christmas At The Pearly Gates
Three men die on Christmas day
And then arrive at the pearly gates
St Peter starts to turn them away
Since his records say they’re reprobates
But since it was Christmas …well
He might let them in
If they had any symbol
of Christmas with them
The first had an ornament in his pocket
St Peter ushered him in
The second had pine needles on his shirt
St Peter bade him within
The third gentleman with a look of chagrin
Pulled out a pair of panties of green and red
“How do these represent Christmas? ”
Astounded, St Peter said

Jewels By Marcelo
'Jewels By Marcelo' is
an antique & jewelry store on Lake Ave.
Marcelo carries antiques
like a silver knight with metal abs.
He has a print of Marilyn Monroe-
I have a smaller print in a postcard though.
I sold my ring to Marcelo for he gives the best price around
I had enough money to turn my cell phone back on.
He also gave me a big book called 'Bicentennial Times'
During the 1976 Bicentennial I was at the age of nine.
I just bought a sparkly bracelet from Marcelo today-
it was gold, silver, pink and grey.
Now, I also worked for his partner Carol-
who had a flower shop which was in Marcelo's space-
Carol now works out of her house and slowed down her pace.
Marcelo has 2 sweet children and a lovely wife-
I wish them the best with a prosperous life.

As Needless Conflicts Cease
Oh how I wish I had a magic wand.
To lift burdens off backs,
With an easing of those trapped...
In their mental wrappings.
To have heads held high,
And covered with radiant Sun light...
To have a dismissing of all their aches.
With a replacement of joy...
Manifesting in their eyes opened wide and bright.
Oh how I wish I had a magic wand.
And days spent in happiness,
Would go on and on.
With the caroling of Christmas songs,
Heard.
As needless conflicts cease to be prioritized.
'Happy holidays.'

This Christmas That's My Wish
And I think of Christmas,
Through the year.
Of falling snow,
And flying deer.
Hearing jingle bells...
And carols of noël.
And with each gift I pick and choose...
There comes this special wish,
That happiness will lift all smiles...
And no one's dream is missed!
This is Christmas!
There is such a joy in me!
I still see Santa Claus...
Rushing quick with deliveries.
And I know it's getting near that time...
When snow and hope appears.
As laughter fills the smiling eyes,

The lark confinèd in his cage
The lark confinèd in his cage,
And captive in his wing,
Though fluttering with imprisoned rage,
Forbeareth not to sing.
But still the strain, though loud and long,
Is but the mock of mirth,
Not that dawn-dewy nuptial song
That weddeth Heaven with Earth.
Voice that in freedom seems so soft,
Fettered, sounds harsh and rough.
Listen! He shrilleth far too oft,
Nor faltereth half enough.
And I, still feebler it not free,
Do hourly more and more
Grow silent in captivity,
And, if I sing, must soar.

James Shirley: XIV
THE DUSK of day’s decline was hard on dark
When evening trembled round thy glowworm lamp
That shone across her shades and dewy damp
A small clear beacon whose benignant spark
Was gracious yet for loiterers’ eyes to mark,
Though changed the watchword of our English camp
Since the outposts rang round Marlowe’s lion ramp,
When thy steed’s pace went ambling round Hyde Park.
And in the thickening twilight under thee
Walks Davenant, pensive in the paths where he,
The blithest throat that ever carolled love
In music made of morning’s merriest heart,
Glad Suckling, stumbled from his seat above
And reeled on slippery roads of alien art.

The Seasons
The year hath first his jocund spring,
Wherein the leaves, to birds' sweet carolling,
Dance with the wind; then sees the summer's day
Perfect the embryon blossom of each spray;
Next cometh autumn, when the threshèd sheaf
Loseth his grain, and every tree his leaf;
Lastly, cold winter's rage, with many a storm,
Threats the proud pines which Ida's top adorn,
And makes the sap leave succourless the shoot,
Shrinking to comfort his decaying root.

Only
Only if you want to, she said,
only if it means to you what
it means to me. The other
members of the choir were
ahead on their way to the next
house for carol singing, the full
moon luminous above, the voices
of others like faraway whispers
of ghosts. She looked at you; her
blue eyes searching every aspect
of you for an answer. Yes, it does,
you replied, your words hanging
around your head like tamed birds.
She smiled and closed her blue eyes

Not To Be
THE rose said 'Let but this long rain be past,
And I shall feel my sweetness in the sun
And pour its fullness into life at last.'
But when the rain was done,
But when dawn sparkled through unclouded air,
She was not there.
The lark said 'Let but winter be away,
And blossoms come, and light, and I will soar,
And lose the earth, and be the voice of day.'
But when the snows were o'er,
But when spring broke in blueness overhead,
The lark was dead.
And myriad roses made the garden glow,
And skylarks carolled all the summer long—
What lack of birds to sing and flowers to blow?
Yet, ah, lost scent, lost song!
Poor empty rose, poor lark that never trilled!
Dead unfulfilled!

Flower-De-Luce: Christmas Bells
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Till, ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
