Got life in prisons.

Greetings

Greetings

The lone star beer was ice cold, turned my teeth into
glaziers. My mind froze as polar bears hunted seals
on ice floes. I shuddered and thought of home.

“Don’t you like the American way? ” A tall Texan said.
He looked like a US Marshal, grey suit and a Stetson
hat, also grey.” I love America, especially Texas”, I said.

With frostbitten lips I told him I had been to New York
too, but preferred Houston. To this everyone smiled
and the big man said: ” welcome to Texas.”

Suicide Tsunami

From public school my wife reminds me of the suicide
She left four children and a husband
A poet saddened who never met her
A poet who remembering very little
Still remembers the first sight of water withdrawing
Reports that at least one child was blinded by the blast
Forgive the editorial this is not a matter of class
If anything those with more
Seem to have a higher score
I don’t know about the husband
BUT FOUR CHILDREN
This poor soul just pointed
The Houston nurse thing in the other direction.

San Fransico 1988

Year was 1988,
went to San Francisco
feeling really great.
Went over the Golden Gate Bridge,
seeing Alcatraz where the criminals
used to live.
Bought a t-shirt souvenir,
never did keep it after
all those years.
Later went to Reno but
did not gamble,
Boyfriend drank
Bloody Marys while
I drank ice-tea like Snapple.
We flew into Houston on
the way home,

Freedom within grasp of their hands
Travis' men held the Fort in line
If later, none among them stands
Still, blowing all throughout those lands
Is cause that walls could not confine

And Crockett shed his blood for more
