The Ethereal Turnstiles
Resins over the four corners of the earth, and
Mexican hands picking watermelons- supposing this was
Always where they were meant to show up:
Busses leaving high schools and disappearing down familiar
Roads-
Running through the smoke of chalk and seashells, trying
To raise up some god just to pass the time until they can get
Home to the trailer park of their
Television:
With the sky as rich as a snow pea: as slender and fragile,
With the airplanes smoking through
The ethereal turnstiles.

No Military for Me
No military for me,
No tanks or guns,
Or army ranks -
To hell with it all -
No military for me,
No stupid generals
Deciding who lives
Or dies -
No young recruits
Blindly following
Orders to dropp
Bombs on children
No heroes, no trenches,
No waiting wives
Or crying mothers,
Nobody to fight for me

Jumbo Jet
I saw a little elephant standing in my garden,
I said 'You don't belong in here', he said 'I beg you pardon?',
I said 'This place is England, what are you doing here?',
He said 'Ah, then I must be lost' and then 'Oh dear, oh dear'.
'I should be back in Africa, on Saranghetti's Plain',
'Pray, where is the nearest station where I can catch a train?'.
He caught the bus to Finchley and then to Mincing lane,
And over the Embankment, where he got lost, again.
The police they put him in a cell, but it was far too small,
So they tied him to a lampost and he slept against the wall.
But as the policemen lay sleeping by the twinkling light of dawn,
The lampost and the wall were there, but the elephant was gone!
So if you see an elephant, in a Jumbo Jet,
You can be sure that Africa's the place he's trying to get!

Sonnet: Fortune
When fortune does not favour us, 'tis Fate;
When Fortune favours us, we call it Luck;
Some realise this only when 'tis late;
Some call the art of getting luck as pluck.
Thus, Destiny is in our very hands;
We can well change our plight if it is bad;
On how the pilot drives, aeroplane lands;
A lazy man makes life for himself sad.
A coward takes refuge in word called 'Fate',
The brave will fight their way till success comes;
Sometimes, 'tis tough to open success gate;
Great bitterness exists in ripe red-plums.
Why blame or praise the Stars that stay always?
Our labour sustained brings us our D-days.

Great Ocean Road
It is all there
The earth and the ocean
They contain the power
of our lives
This beautiful city
that surrenders
to the nightfall
Carving the grounds
we walk upon
And the air
We all dare
to ride it somehow
Blue and black is the sky
While tumbling down
Trapped into the freedom
of an aeroplane

Mr Bose good you never completed your war
Ah that untraceable in history
This is going to annoy many people
The ones who are searching for his remains
Trying to find out where he was knocked off.
The facts are there for all to see
Just look at those photographs
His jingoist military style
A fascist air about him
German submarines and Nipponese aircraft
Piggybacking on a rotten Japanese army
Whose cruelty even the best could not have overlooked
And a whole people across Asia can never forgive
Gandhi saw through him…
And the rest is history.

Our Country
Their country treated them well,
Like an animal is kept a good pet.
Forms of employment missed us and wedded us,
Concern for the violent debt whets our appetite.
We see more landings of aircraft than anyone,
Because we are near an airport.
Five planes have concerned us most,
The very ones near our home just an hour ago.
We saw flight like that of birds;
Birds are beautiful, and so are we,
But do we see the air planes and their noise more often?
Our country is concerned with us
And other countries.

Train and Plane
I take the train
I board the plane
I ride the train
I fly the plane
I go by train
I come by plane
I go by plane
I come by train
I land the plane
I board the train
I take the plane
I ride the train
I come by train
I go by plane
I come by plane
I ride in rain

Let Kites Fly
Russians were always friend
Kept their promises till the end
Whether friendship treaty or otherwise
They have kept words with promises
I witnessed arrivals of jaguars
They were flying from very far
Landed first at near by base
It was nice to witness the chase
Indian air space is to be considered as holy scene
Never to be violated and ever to be seen
Countrymen look towards warriors and brave
Let enemy now watch their move properly behave
Countries near by borders are to be watched
Their intention is to be repeatedly searched
Not even full proof system may grant protection
Our brave soldiers and airmen may prove it with their action

Flying Squirrels
On the rugged water shed
At the top of the bridle track
Where years ago, as the old men say,
The splitters went with a bullock dray
But never a dray came back.
At the time of the gum tree bloom,
When the scent in the air is strong,
And the blossom stirs in the evening breeze,
You may see the squirrels among the trees,
Playing the whole night long.
Never a care at all
Bothers their simple brains;
You can see them glide in the moonlight dim
From tree to tree and from limb to limb,
Little grey aeroplanes.
Each like a dormouse sleeps
In the spout of a gum tree old,

Goodbye Blue Sky
Look mummy, theres an aeroplane up in the sky
Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the
Promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue
Sky?
Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.
Goodbye, blue sky
Goodbye, blue sky.
Goodbye.
Goodbye.
Goodbye.

I hate work so
I hate work so
That I have found a way
Of making one small task outlast the day.
I will not leave
The garden and the sun,
In spite of all the work that should be done.
So when I go
To really make my bed
I've made it ten times over in my head.
Then as for meals!
I think I'd rather be
A nervous wreck than make a cup of tea.
The fire's so low
It isn't any good—
While I sit planning to put on some wood.
One thing is sure,
I pity other drones,
God having made me such a lazy-bones.

Dark Sky
High in the black sky
Like a bright moving red star
A lonely airplane ploughs the night
A blinking rhyme of ruby light
Crossing the dark
Between the twinkling diamonds
Of the constellation Ursa Major.
The yellow crescent
Of the curious moon
Stares down on the orphan earth
And I wonder whether its
Clement melodious rays
Will console your gentle soul
And bring solace to your solitude.

This Juvenile Rope
Well—so this juvenile rope
Hangs us as we won't go out and light the wicks
With the dragons coming home
Over the equinoxes—while our fairytale fathers fish
And look up at Saturn,
And can never be resolved if this is actually the place—
Maybe a beautiful uncle paints a mural in a trailer park
On the other side of the canal,
While something else plays on our television—
And the ghosts leave the burned wings of our paper
Airplanes—and go outside between the cypress and
Melaleuca to explore
And explore.

Battle Of Britain: Attacking Enemy Aircraft
Life is diced in fatal split seconds agonized flying.

Wanting to know if I am all right?
I dream about a helicopter
that is whining chattering
while I am shooting clattering
with the machinegun in the door
and in the dark night
I see tracers drawing lines
to down below
and see the enemy run
in the silver light
cast by the moon
and in the distance
a bolt of lightning falls
just past a place
were a torch hangs in the air
like a small sun
and it’s as if a rocket propelled grenade

Im a clockwork creep
And I cant get to sleep
They wind me up and let me go
And I cant unwind
Going out of my mind
My time is coming soon you know
Tick a tick a time bomb
Tick a tick a time bomb
Tick a tick a time bomb
Im a jumbo jet
With a brand new set
Of passengers and bags and crew
Ill spread my wings -
Do a thousand things
To prove how good I am to you

Across This Antheap
Soldiers, workers, slaves and farmers,
Nurses, queens and drones.
Wish theyd leave my head tonight,
Let me rest my bones.
(ziggedy zig zag just look at em. ziggedy zag, hey hey)
A billion feet sound just like a billion drums.
A bed is creaking as the messiah comes.
The cars are crashing and the bacon is hacked.
The coffins lowered and the lunches get packed.
Still segregating cause we insects are too proud.
Doesnt matter what colour of cat you are theres no dogs allowed.
And the screaming sky wont let me sleep.
The stars are laughing at us,
As we crawl on and on across this antheap.
War planes go over but no wages go round.
A sign goes up to say hey were twin towned.
The dough is rising but no bread will be baked.
The fur is genuine but the orgasms faked.
Were spending millions to learn to speak porpoise,
When human loneliness is still a deafening noise.
