Islands Without Sea
All this distance
Worlds apart yet there it is
We live amidst the cold winds
Lamont silver candles without heart
Old photos like summer sun
Time changes like a silent chill
She sleeps with unawareness of my pain
I play like a prison yard
Disconnected and civil
Vacuous gray sentences
Slow withdrawal
Muster your lust in place of love
Count the compensations
Superficial ribbons and bows
Frost on the trees
All the diminished returns
Islands without sea

Farm On The Freeway
Nine miles of two-strand topped with barbed wire
Laid by the father for the son.
Good shelter down there on the valley floor,
Down by where the sweet stream run.
Now they might give me compensation...
Thats not what Im chasing. I was a rich man before yesterday.
Now all I have got is a cheque and a pickup truck.
I left my farm on the freeway.
Theyre busy building airports on the south side...
Silicon chip factory on the east.
And the big roads pushing through along the valley floor.
Hot machine pouring six lanes at the very least.
Now, they say they gave me compensation...
Thats not what Im chasing. I was a rich man before yesterday.
Now all I have left is a broken-down pickup truck.
Looks like my farm is a freeway.
They forgot they told us what this old land was for.
Grow two tons the acre, boy, between the stones.
This was no southfork, it was no ponderosa.
But it was the place that I called home.

'Shall I be gone long?
Forever and a day.
Where will I go?
Ask my song.'

in the ice-box
were no compensation
for the note attached there

Such a structure would also raise a number of problems: first of all, which Timorese to pay compensation to? It would open a can of worms in terms of who was really a victim and who was not.

Almost any government activity can also be seen as taking property ""without just compensation."" The basic model of an unconstitutional ""taking"" would be if the government threw you out of your house.

Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied
Justice seekers wait day after day,
Month after month, year after year
Even decade is passed but
In course of justice they don’t hear.
Sometimes they pass away
without getting the justice.
Such delays lack faith
In system amongst the public.
Maggu's land was captured
In an act of atrocity
And his cow was stolen
From his own vicinity.
With good efforts of police
The stolen cow was traced
But died beforel order of justice
To return it, was graced.

Make No Mistake
Make no mistake, much laughter masks hid fears
or insecurities few wish to show
to heartless world that rats, repays with tears
of spite lightheartedness that seems to glow.
Beware comparing Man with species strange:
tease chimpanzees, they'll freeze bared teeth, barred grin,
animal tics may mimic human range
emotions seen without, belied within.
Laughter releases stress to compensate
inner tensions, compensations which,
like yawning, are contagious, may create
superficial empathy that brief
supplies society displaying
the need to feed from mirage motions playing.

Cap the well, yes. Clear up the mess, yes. Make compensation - yes, absolutely. But would it be right to have legislation that independently targets BP rather than other companies? I don't think that - would be right.

No evil is without its compensation. The less money, the less trouble the less favor, the less envy. Even in those cases which put us out of wits, it is not the loss itself, but the estimate of the loss that troubles us.

Light is sufficient to itself
862
Light is sufficient to itself—
If Others want to see
It can be had on Window Panes
Some Hours in the Day.
But not for Compensation—
It holds as large a Glow
To Squirrel in the Himmaleh
Precisely, as to you.
