Fishing

There were lots of tiddlers,
little minnows,
a few catfish
and a small group
of piranhas,
yeh, lots of slippery fish.
She spotted the sharks
as soon as she walked in
but the one she had
her eye on was a fine,
handsome Puffer.
She slid up to his side,
slipped him the line
and reeled him in.
He took the bait willingly
and was hooked.

Big Sky Fishing

Listen very closely and hear that distant splash
Maybe just a big catfish moving out of his nest
When the golden rays of a sunrise hit the water
Time to pull one in because it's fishing at its best

Memories of big sky fishing come flooding back
When I think on my historical family traditions
For this brings to me inner peace and much joy
Big Sky Fishing happens without any conditions

Survival Kit

the grass accepts death
of all it has, leaves and roots
its color blends with
the dust and parched mud
cracking surfaces
it also knows to preserve
its species
burying resilient seeds on
the cracks
and when it rains it begins
to grow buds
roots and all and the whole
ground is green again

meanwhile on cracked grounds
where once the pond was
the whiskers of the catfish begin
to wriggle
shedding off mud around its skin
the fish begins to swim

August

August brings so many things to mind
Like county fairs with fun foods and rides easy to find.
Catfish scream louder than ever for our fishing poles,
Inviting us to joyous jaunts at our favorite watering holes.
The dog days of summer start drawing to a close,
But there’s still time for a lake visit or just a sprinkler hose.
August August, we thank you for your role in this summer.
Without you no doubt this season would be a real bummer.

051310D fishing by wire

i saw a old man dialing a catfish
he has a car battery on his backpack
connected to a long rod and net scoop
it has this beeping sound; zapping fish
they just belly up and ready for picking
he could have enough fries for evening

i saw small ones float and wash away
some recover, some drown to eternity
i stayed away i'm scared of electricity
i remember feelings of being tasered
you become stiff and it does really hurts
i couldn't ask fish but i saw what it does

Plent of Fish in the Sea

Fishing in a lake full of rainbow trout,
All that I can catch is the one and only catfish,
After throwing it back with different bait several times,
I devise a plan,

I shall vehemently murder it.

The blood spills across the deep blue lake,
Guts dispersed like clouds immersed in an apocalyptic sunrise,
Splashing the water,
the image won't disappear.

Bad before,
Worse than before.

My attempt to forget has failed.
Now, the murder has been branded inside my mind.
Forever, I will see the painful image.

I love To Go Fishing

I love to go fishing everyday,
To the river or the lake.
Up in the morning without delay,
I go fishing soon as I wake.

Down to the water to wet my line,
My float bobbing up and down.
Fishing in the morning, is just so fine,
Your face will never sport a frown.

A big ole catfish, or a little bluegill,
I just don't give a hoot.
I love the way fishing makes me feel,
To me it's like forbidden fruit.

If I get lucky and get a bite,
Then the day is made.
I'll stick around till early night,
Just snoozing in the shade.

Unincorporated Insights XIII

The grays of thought trail to the blacks and whites
As if they were catfish crawling through dirt.
Sprawling though they are, they are out of sight,
Pressuring the mud to remain inert.
They prevent an untold calamity
By refusing to sift their skin forward,
Relaxing where there is conformity—
Though fear makes them thrash about and wayward.
Their quaking tremors of brash distemper
May break us from our rachitic foothold,
Hushing our antinomian whimpers,
Showing us that control is uncontrolled.
We tremble, not knowing we are their might,
Forming unincorporated insights.

Green River

Words and music by john fogerty
Take me back down where cool water flows, yall.
Let me remember the things Ive done: walk on the log where the catfish bite;
Walking along the river road at night; barefoot gir, dancin in the moonlight.
I can hear the bullfrog calling me. (ribbit)
Wondrin if my ropes still hangin to the tree.
Ole brody juniour took me over; said youre gonna find a well thats colder.
If Im a bad boss, give some ogreen river.
Well...

Mad: 1

He was angling fish sitting on the high way,
frequently making the hook dance
and all on a sudden, pulling the fishing rod so forcefully that
it seemed a big catfish had certainly swallowed the hook.
He was then repenting loudly showing others
really a big fish had been successful to flee making him a fool.

Pedestrians were watching him shaking their necks
and bursting into laughter.
An unhappy man stopped his purple colored car beside the road
and opening the window asked him aloud, 'Brother,
have you got any fish? '

He raised his eyes at forehead with surprise and said, 'Alas!
Who has ever got any fish on a dry street? '

Mighty Mississippi

In Southern Comfort she flows along
Her swirling current of water
a stream of muddy river songs
rising
ebbing
flowing
throughout history and a graveyard of industry
back then when Huckleberry Finns
went wading in with bamboo poles
and steam queens paddled by
in antebellum style
The wooden wheel marking time each
turn
turn
turn
preserving a place in the memory burn
that good folk never forget
Beginnings and endings progressing toward
a more is more corp of engineers
who through the years

Night Crawlers

Night Crawlers wiggling in my hand,
They are the best bait in all the land.
Night Crawlers, six and a half inch long,
From the heart of Texas, you can't go wrong.

Night Crawlers a sure fire guarantee,
You'll catch your limit under that tree.
Night Crawlers they are just so fine,
Just hook them up on your fishing line.

Night Crawlers for catfish, are just the best,
Head and shoulders above the rest.
Night Crawlers, number one you must rate,
A whole lot better, than that ole stink bait.

Night Crawlers, a good and slimey treat,
Whatever you use, they got it beat.
Night Crawlers on the job, and you can't miss,
I think I'll give mine, a big wet kiss.

A Fishermans Will

A Fisherman's Will

I have eaten catfish in more ways than one
Fish that is blackened is not over done
Bass done over a grill with butter basting
Fish balls fried are really tasty

I have had days I caught more fish than I could contain
Then there were days I didn't get a bite and it rained
Memories of Dads and trips where we bonded
Caught some that could have been mounted

Romance and fishing don't go together well
Poles and pools on days hotter than hell
I've never make a good fisher of men
But I have found fishing gives me a grin

So when I die I ask you please
Put my body in a river or sea
Let the fish then eat off me,

Just An After-Thought

Who are those people across the street?
They appear to be waving.
And at you.

'Someone is mistaken.
They could not be waving at me.
Before they crossed the street.
They would not speak.
Not to me.
Perhaps they wave to you to join them.'

Why would I do that?

'Why would they be waving? '

Perhaps they've learned 'something'...
That affected their lives,
While being on the other side.

'Hmmm,

Seabirds

Mighty waves come crashing down,
The spray is lashing high into the eagles eye
Shrieking as it cuts the devil wind,
Is calling sailors to the deep
But I can hear the sound of seabirds in my ear
Surf is high an the sea is awash
An a haze of candy floss, glitter and beads
Rock that we sat on and watched in the sun
That was hot to touch
And the sea was emerald green
I can hear the sound of seabirds in my ear
And I can see you smile
Surf comes rushing up the beach
Now will it reach the castle wall and will it fall
Catfish dappled silver flashing
Dogfish puffing bubbles in my deep

Underwater Autumn

Now the summer perch flips twice and glides
a lateral fathom at the first cold rain,
the surface near to silver from a frosty hill.
Along the weed and grain of log he slides his tail.

Nervously the trout (his stream-toned heart
locked in the lake, his poise and nerve disgraced)
above the stirring catfish, curves in bluegill dreams
and curves beyond the sudden thrust of bass.

Surface calm and calm act mask the detonating fear,
the moving crayfish claw, the stare
of sunfish hovering above the cloud-stained sand,
a sucker nudging cans, the grinning maskinonge.

How do carp resolve the eel and terror here?
They face so many times this brown-ribbed fall of leaves
predicting weather foreign as a shark or prawn
and floating still above them in the paling sun.

Don't You See?

The day was hotter than words can tell,
So hot the jelly-fish wouldn't jell.
The halibut went all to butter,
And the catfish had only force to utter
A faint sea-mew - aye, though some have doubted,
The carp he capered and the horn-pout pouted.

The sardonic sardine had his sly heart's wish
When the angelfish fought with the paradise fish.
'T was a sight gave the bluefish the blues to see,
But the seal concealed a wicked glee-

The day it went from bad to worse,
Till the pickerel picked the purse-crab's purse.

And the crab felt crabedder yet no doubt,
Because the oyster would n't shell out.
The sculpin would sculp, but had n't a model,
And the coddlefish begged for something to coddle.

Well he caught his first whiff in the jungles

Now every single night she drops her big bomb
Cause hes a bamb00 bimbo
Those hook marks really show
Cause hes a bamboo bimb0
He went for it now everyone knows
Hes a bamboo bimb0
He caught his first glance in field and stream
That salt water taffy was a fishermans
