Quotes about chess, page 17

Robert James “Bobby” Fischer world citizen despite USA

Why, international chess master,
why all magistrate ingenuity wasted on a puzzling game?
What with the black king, what with the white,
what secret passion with the duo femme
on the board roaming upright?

Some pusillanimity, perhaps?
of guns on bruised shoulders?
of chemicals and tubes?
of mice in a maze?

Who made the choice for you, genius,
your dad? your mummy? a family doc?
a reputation-paedomorphic haste?
your neighbourly mentor?

You and your kin,
so many thousands of years accusing Napoleon
for fighting within self,
over and above trapeziums, against any polis,

Juggernaut

[Frank Marino]
Evolution, revolution
Are the parents of one another
Moving ever moving crushing
Everything that gets in its way
Smiles telling lies about the future
I don't wat to believe them
Pity on their faces baby
Don't you think they laugh
In your face
Wheels of justice they have fallen off
Man's on crutches
Being kicked like dogs
It's a jugernaut
It's a jugernaut
It's a jugernaut
Politician's makin' money all the time
They murder our freedom
Filling up their pockets
While the people in the street

Verbal Milk

Yeuch!Brother J says yeuuch!Hmmhmmhmmhmm..
[Professor X]
Ahhhh!Straight from the temple of everlasting
ME!P.X.O., and the X-Clan (aww yeah)
Chillin, cleaning the pinkie
Hey Brother J, time for a ride
Put the key, to the ignition, and then..
[Brother J]
Ah yes yes blue, ah come on to go
We're immortals to the portals til the book folds
I'm goin Blackwards to the East, tweedle-dee, tweedle-dum
Fee fi fum to the tribal drum drum
I'm sittin on my temple, just pluckin silly mortals
Speakin peace of mind to my many sons and daughters
Gettin loose, loose, as I release the juice
I'm more into the (?) cause a simple Mother Goose
could never hang with the words, that ever caused the clamor
I'm singin "Raise the Flag" cause I hate the Spangled Banner
Because you can't get with me, you label me enemy
Your comments on the mortal side are labelled as blasphemy

The Rocking Of A Cradle

I honestly wish my portrayals were always happy.
But as history show us.
That just can not be.
Some despise me for it.
Others dismiss it as being from a nut who knows of nothing.
As if truth was something evil I was just spewing from my mouth.
As the a fire flows its own way in a dance that is always different.
Still heat comes from it, just in a different direction.
It will continue with out any delay.
Some will be warm while others will be cold.
Some will die young while others will die old.
Fairness is not divided into portions of gold.
It is not something that can be just bought and sold.
The equals sign is hard to come by in life.
So many unknown variables, that the equation is almost always unsolvable,
The search continues on as I continue to ramble on.
Sometime the fruits on many years of labor are acquired.
But usually the these fruits are small in comparison to work it took to produce them.
We are but plowing the field, planting the seed, and tending to the hope that something will grow.
A uncertainty is but life from the foundation up.

Hey, Mr. Dj, I Thought You Said We Had A Deal

I could never sleep my way to the top
'cause my alarm clock always wakes me right up
And since my options had been whittled away
I struck a bargain with my radio dj
I said i'd like this song to be number one
He said "i'd really really like to help you my son"
And then i knew that i would have him to thank
Because he asked me how much i had in the bank
He said to think long term investment and
That all the others had forgiven themselves
He said the net reward would justify
The colossal mess they'd made of their lives
He said the record wouldn't have to be hot
And no one ever seemed to care if it's not
It would depend on something else that i've got
And that the other ones who'd given it a shot
Had seen a modest sum grow geometrically
And then they had forgiven themselves
Because the net reward had justified
The colossal mess they'd made of their lives*

Man In The Moon

Mott the Hoople and the game of Life. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Monopoly, Twenty one, checkers, and chess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Let's play Twister, let's play Risk. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
See you in heaven if you make the list. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Now, Andy did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch?
Andy are you goofing on Elvis? Hey, baby. Are we losing touch?
If you believed they put a man on the moon, man on the moon.
If you believe there's nothing up his sleeve, then nothing is cool.
Moses went walking with the staff of wood. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Newton got beaned by the apple good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Egypt was troubled by the horrible asp. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mister Charles Darwin had the gall to ask. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Now Andy did you hear about this one? Tell me, are you locked in the punch?

Here's a little agit for the never-believer. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Here's a little ghost for the offering. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Illuminated

Turn the lights on!
Change the channel cuz the fight's on
You know you can't watch all the stars dance without the right song
So turn the music up!
Let it beat on your soul til it uses up
The foolish acoustics, your ears lose enough
Wait, you don't need three squares for a cubic cup

Just do the math
And the read the numbers
They must think they're too clever by two halves
You don't encumber
Cuz you know that
Bright 5th graders can be smarter than a plutocrat

So light it up once
Roll it down twice
Puff puff pass, three steps and the roll the dice
You see it in their eyes
Covered by suits and ties

Those Feelings

i

the first exhilaration was when you were issued the visa.
in your mind is 'America! America! '
here i come, 'America! ' as though you are going to heaven.
the family butchers the 60-kilo pig and the whole village rejoice
over your success.

America is your gateway to what you perceive as an escape
from poverty. This country is a haven of corruption. This country
is not offering you opportunities to rise to a higher level of existence.
The politicians here are good for nothing but promises.
You keep telling yourself. Patriotism is gone.

ii

Then you are in America. You have your first taste of snow inside your room.
Outside it is cold, and you begin to say, this is not what i dream about.
You are one of the jobless. You only fill in for work. Those who promised to
help you avoid you. You have become another useless number in the world

Instinct, Emotional and Rational

The Instinct, the Emotional, and the Rational
Are the stages at which your mind functions,
Together or severally in variant degrees.

Hunger and survival: The Instinct springs.
Love and hate: The Emotional surges.
Right and wrong: The Rational decides.

In the game of chess, you are rational.
In the game of love, you are emotional.
In the game of sex, you are instinctual.

The Rational mind is your judge.
The Emotional mind is your advocate.
The Instinctual mind is your subject.

When judge fails, when advocate fails,
The subject spurts to save the self
Or feeds the self without fail.

Ch 05 On Love And Youth Story 10

In the exuberance of youth, as it usually happens and as thou knowest, I was on the closest terms of intimacy with a sweetheart who had a melodious voice and a form beautiful like the moon just rising.

He, the down of whose cheek drinks the water of immortality,
Whoever looks at his sugar lips eats sweetmeats.

I happened to notice something in his behaviour which was contrary to nature and not approved of by me. Accordingly I gathered up my skirt from him and, picking up the pieces of the chess-game of friendship, recited:

‘Go and do as thou listest.
Thou hast not our head; follow thine.’
I heard him saying when he went away:
‘If the bat desires not union with the sun
The beauty of the sun will not decrease.’
Saying this, he departed and his distress took effect on me:
I lost the time of union and man is ignorant
Of the value of delightful life before adversity.
Return. Slay me. For to die in thy presence
Is more sweet than to live after thee.

Thanks be to the bounty of God, he returned some time afterwards but his melodious voice had changed, his Joseph like beauty had faded, on the apple of his skin dust had settled as upon a quince so that the splendour of his beauty had departed. He wanted me to embrace him. I complied and said:

Hangman with the teacher

R_ T_ _E_

It was a Tuesday painted Friday
by wanton act of tragedy
When punctual Mr. Miller, laconically sat
Looking on his wards he silently wept
He sighed with contempt
of a lifetime of regret
Meditating sorrow in his morning Earl Grey tea
Looking through the window
at tears of rain rang from the pang
And the sky was mourning grey

A middle age man he was tall and rather fair
Angular face, with drawn pink cheeks
The formal decorum of accountant attire

Boris Pasternak

Marburg

I quivered. I flared up, and then was extinguished.
I shook. I had made a proposal - but late,
Too late. I was scared, and she had refused me.
I pity her tears, am more blessed than a saint.

I stepped into the square. I could be counted
Among the twice-born. Every leaf on the lime,
Every brick was alive, caring nothing for me,
And reared up to take leave for the last time.

The paving-stones glowed and the street's brow was swarthy,
From under their lids the cobbles looked grim,
Scowled up at the sky, and the wind like a boatman
Was rowing through limes. And each was an emblem.

Be that as it may, I avoided their glances,
Averted my gaze from their greeting or scowling.
I wanted no news of their getting and spending.
I had to get out, so as not to start howling.

Ballade of the guard commander

II

At dusk the sun sets fiery red
behind the bushes
where in beauty it brings tranquillity to the bush-veldt.

There are guards that I inspect as commander
where they stand neatly in a platoon
and I look at them one after the other and then right through them

walk to the guardroom on top of the shooting tower
and in the camp in the operational aria
every thing is in order, the guards are capable.

Early in the evening another officer
comes and plays a game of chess
and we drink icy glasses of beer

but when it gets later their is silence and peace
as if it’s just another evening in a thousand

Victim of his own Success

Man, victim of his own success, must fast grasp opportunity
to offer all equality of chances and advances stress
as the ability to press for rights for disability
the strong ignore, or fail to bless.

Man, victim of his own success, does not deserve impunity
when biosphere supportive he still stifles in the name of, - guess, -
‘Democracy’, free-choice oppress through ways of ta[l]king liberty
as only freedom to repress.

Man, victim of his own success, - tale’s pun, - few marks of modesty
retains, yet with anxiety observes galactic game of chess
while most Earth’s problems won’t address. This manifest dichotomy
highlights concerns we should assess.

Man, victim of his own success, needs to transcend his history
predative, channel energy towards solutions which suppress
his immaturity, redress the balance of society,
extend awareness free from stress.

God (Take 1)

(ian hunter)
God said to me "gonna kick your ass - cos all you do is ask ask ask
All that energy looking for me when Im sitting here inside you - plain to see
How I built you cell for cell gave you sights to see - gave you tales to tell
Even let you help yourself for a while - to take some weight off this busy child"
I said to God "i found you out - I know what this world is all about!"
God said "stop - dont scramble your brain - my opponents been messing you around again
See him and me are enemies and we play little games for galaxies
And hes inside you - n I am too - so here we are - just the three of you"
"oh we made mistakes - too many cards - but making human beings can be hard
A God gets tired of playing so much chess - he wishes his God would get him out of his mess"
I said to God "whats it like to die" he said "its as plain as the sea and sky
Conception was him and me and you - when your batteries fade we all just move on"
I said to God "whos winning this game - is the devil in front" he said "is that his name
You know Ive been so busy I never asked - I never looked up from this awesome task"
I said to God "whats good n bad" he said "its just something youve got to have
It dont mean nothing to us up here - but your primitive people - you gotta have fear"
I said to God "do I think for myself" he said I told you once you just help yourself
Dont forget youre composed of three, your thinking comes from him and me"
I said to God "how big are you, is there a religion - is it true

Willie's Ladye

Willie has ta'en him o'er the faem,
He's wooed a wife, and brought her hame;
He's wooed her for her yellow hair,
But his mother wrought her meikle care;

And meikle dolour gar'd her dree,
For lighter she can never be;
But in her bow'r she sits with pain,
And Willie mourns o'er her in vain.

And to his mother he has gane,
That vile rank witch, of vilest kind!
He says--'My lady has a cup,
With gowd and silver set about;
This gudely gift shall be your ain,
And let her be lighter of her bairn.'

'Of her bairn she's never be lighter,
Nor in her bow'r to shine the brighter
But she shall die, and turn to clay,

Go home and die

(For those who died because of the holocaust
Of the AIDS denialism of Thabo Mbeki)

'Nobody knows you when you're down and out
...as for friends, you don't have any'
From a blues standard by Jimmy Cox

You saw them cover up for their cronies
Who should have hanged for the gross
Misconduct of causing the deaths of ten
Thousand innocent miners and a political
Solution was concoted to silence their widows
So you decide to hit the road to sat foot at a mine
And you take one last furtive glance at them
Who are imprisoned in the mines and fear
To go to the township because the place is full
Of tricksters and tsotsis of no particular origin
And you see the women who sell AIDS and quick sex
Under the trees and you want to live in a hurry
And you look at the boys who prostitute themselves
